Meet Beau's fellow Hearing Dog (really called Signal Dog by a training place, CCI, in California), "George", a Border Collie(?) co-owned by Karen M. of Chandler, Arizona (left). She and the training center actually shared ownership. Notice Beau at the bottom right corner! (He's only 6 months old.)

Meet another of Beau's fellow Hearing Dog, "Rocky". He's a Rat terrier. His owner is Shari Golyer, whom I 'met' first on the 'net. After Shari's visit to Arizona, we became great pals! She, Rocky, and her husband William reside in Anaheim (Orange County), California. Shari originally submitted the following photos specifically for this Page. Thanks, Shari!

Here's Shari holding "Rocky", with their trainer, Captain Arthur Haggerty (holding bird), a renowned Hollywood animal trainer, who's also an actor in the '70s Burt Reynolds movie SHAMUS. He also worked as a movie stuntman.

Haggerty practicing Rocky to pick up an object and keep hold in his mouth to help Shari in the future when she loses her eyesight. Rocky is being trained to help pick up dropped objects or to retrieve objects for Shari, whenever necessary.

As you can see, HEARING DOGS ARE PERMITTED EVERYWHERE where the federal laws apply! (Except zoos in some cases, and private places.)

Here's me & Beau (right) hanging with Shari & Rocky at Motel 6, where we, including William and Wesley, enjoyed pizza & soda! Before that, I also watched Shari's video of SHAMUS where she showed me the scenes that Haggerty appeared in. And, we enjoyed looking at training videos & pictures. Rocky was so happy to see Beau after we arrived at the motel and since he was a bit excitable, Beau basically avoided him! Afterwards, I mailed Shari a Rat terrier miniature figurine to thank them all for the visit.

Neat cartoon from the book, DOG TRICKS (pub'd in 1983) written by Haggerty and co-written / illustrated by fellow celebrated trainer (specializing in '2nd-hand / shelter dogs') Carol Lea Benjamin.

I have Haggerty's 1994 soft cover book, HOW TO GET YOUR PET INTO SHOW BUSINESS, that I purchased in 1995, because I wanted to know the ethics of being on a studio set, if I wanted to enter Beau into the business! I met Haggerty at the APDT (Association for Pet Dog Trainers) convention in the Phoenix Civic Plaza, back in '96. "Moose" the Jack Russell terrier who plays "Eddie"of TV's FRASER was in attendance, where I had a Polaroid taken sitting next to him. I framed this picture. After Haggerty completed his training demo in front of a wowing crowd, I managed to approach him to let him know I have his book, then he asked if I liked it, and I said yes. Maybe I should've asked for his autograph! Even Shari had him autograph the SHAMUS video tape...

"Captain was teaching me and my dog {Rocky} for Hearing Ear Dog, Obedience and Service Dog. We work hard on obedience because already two years old not puppy anymore, he likes member of our family. For Hearing Dog we work on alarm clock where Rocky scratch our hand to wake us up. When Rocky hear the doorbell or phone ring then he has to report to me or Bill. For Service Dog we work on retrieving. Rocky holds the stick in 5 mins or longer. When I drop something Rocky picks things up then bring to me."
