FINLAND INTERVIEW LIVESTREAM [4.36 mins]
I think it's just another reflection of the americans, it's not that we planned it that way... even war, looking back at the gulf war, it was like "wag the dog", some sort of film, it didn't seem real anymore, everything was turned into a video game and when they come up with ridiculous statements like this is the first time war has ever made a profit, it just seemed totally obscene that america can be proud of the fact that they've made a profit on a war. It was just a reaction to that. And then found that soul, a really simple performance based video, where we said look we don't want to spend any money on this we want to try and make this just purely about us and the honesty of the song.
(can't hear the question) ... I think Jeremy Deller, he said something about mammals, I dunno, perhaps he wanted to be a zoo-ologist but he's a great bloke as is the bloke who directed it.
... well we were on a journey and we were travelling and we came to our destination and decided we didn't like it so we thought we'd return to where we came from and try a different journey. We just wanted to do something different and show people the two different sides of the album. I think if we'd just released so why so sad people would have a wrong impression of what the album's about. So we thought we'd release two contrasting singles. The original idea was to do two contrasting albums but sony said it would be too difficult for them to market. So we just made it easy for them but then they made it difficult for themselves even with the singles.
It's getting the head round, it's like trying to get left and right going at the same time, very much like playing the drums. Like I said we just didn't want to over produce it, we just wanted to get the instruments, we didn't want any additional session players, we didn't want strings and stuff or if we did want strings then we try and do it ourselves, with the keyboard, with Nick Nasmyth our keyboard player. And try to keep it as tightly packed as possible, keep it tight and try and keep the essence of the group together rather than introducing too many musicians.
We did those 3 things with David Holmes just cos we got to a point with those tracks where we felt we just couldn't go any further with it and we needed someone to add a little bit of sparkle on it (close up of wedding ring) a little bit of glitter and you know I thought he came through.
We asked him to do some mixes before in the past and we'd met him a few times, he came to a few of our concerts, the last time we played belfast he came, we just liked the things that he was doing, we liked his album, it didn't sound like any other dance record of this time, it was pretty unique it had a good blend of rock as well in it. He just seemed like a good honest soul.
They take a photo of Sean. He signed it for them. He was wearing a HAVANA sweatshirt and a baseball cap. I found this interview at foreverdelayed.com
