ReadAlong: Beating Child Illiteracy

"The NALS found a total of 21-23 percent - or 40-44 million - of the 191 million American adults (defined as age 16 or older) at Level 1, the lowest literacy level" (http://www.ahalenia.com/id/id11/illiterati.html).

While adult illiteracy is a problem in our country, we can solve illiteracy by helping the new generation as well. By creating stories on tape and the books to go with them, it will not only give young writers a chance to have their stories read, but for young people to learn how to read. ReadAlong consists of volunteers who not only help the child to read, but also influence them to ReadAlong at home with a variety of stories. They too, will one day be creating stories for other underpriveleged children, or those lacking the literate ability to listen to and read!!
