Autumn Pub of the Season 1999 Congratulations to Dave Yates and the team at The Golden Ball, Whiston on becoming the first pub to win the Pub of the Season award three times. A sizeable contingent from the branch attended the presentation at the end of March in this picturesque pub to be found just over the stream up Turner Lane off High Street. Regular beers are Tetley Bitter and Taylor's Landlord with 3 changing guest beers. The beer is always in top notch condition however they are expensive at around the £2 a pint mark. Dave says this is to keep out the undesirable elements! The pub is very well known for its excellent food and has special offers in the evenings. An interior refurbishment/enlargement is planned soon, we hope that the character of the pub is retained. The local Laurel and Hardy fan club 'The Sons of the Desert' have made the pub their headquarters with meetings on the first Thursday of the month. Whilst in Whiston, the nearby Sitwell Arms is worth a visit. Try the guest ale from the Tapster's Choice range. Back To Issue Five Back To Inn Touch |
