The venue converts from an indoor one to an outdoor one for the summer, but what could be a worse way to kick off the summer season than to have the concert indoors? Maybe the weather prediction had convinced the Promo staff to change the setup. The sky was a nasty gray and it had rained all day and had ceased at about the time we left the house. Regardless, the clouds looked threatening us with rain, and refusing to give the sun any room to shine. The night ended up being perfect- no rain, no cold; there was even a lunar eclipse around 10 (I caught the end making me wish I hadn’t been cooped up). I arrived at the show around 6;30 only to find that the opener came on at 8:00. So I sat on the clean floor reading a vegan outreach book that someone had given me. I was there until the band came on I think their name was Decal, but I’m not sure, yet that’s what sticks in my mind. They were an O.K. band that did all covers and ended their set with “Superstition> Voodoo Child”. Interesting. After, I happened upon six or so other people I knew. We start talking about the upcoming Hookahville –which is the next weekend. I heard of possible press passes for some in my group, but I don’t remember how they were acquired. The lights went down and the crowd let out a roar; the Wailers take the stage. The poster for the show says “the original Wailers”, but none of the first three Wailers are there. The most known and primary Wailer is Bob Marley. He is not expected to be there because he died of cancer in the early 80’s. I wouldn’t have the slightest clue as to why Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh were no shows. I wonder if I could say that I saw a cover band. They open up with an instrumental “soul shakedown party”. I thought at this point, there was going to be no vocals the entire show, but I was proved wrong with “war” and “d’em belly full”. I am thoroughly enjoying the music, so I started to wiggle and bounce a little off beat, “dancing” if you will. The floor was sticky from spilt beer and I found it hard to move my feet. I looked around me at that point to take in the surroundings. I loved being around all of the true rastas and I felt like there was no difference between any of us, and at least for the night. We were all just fans of good heady reggae. They play “one love” and “zion train”. Just as “running away” floats from the speakers, I decide I want to get closer to the stage. I’m a short kid, so I can’t see. I get up pretty close, but to my surprise, I closed my eyes to better hear the music. I found that I didn’t need to be close to the stage, I just needed to block my other strong sense to fully take in the music. For the first time that night I had rhythm and I danced my butt off just letting the music flow through me. I head over to the other side of the stage while they played and I danced my way through the crowd singing “we’ll be forever loving Jah” at the top of my lungs. My brother pointed out to me that Johnny Polansky (Percussionist from Hookah) was sitting back on the left side of the stage sitting in with the Wailers. “WOW!!” The band continued with the ever so famous “I shot the sheriff”. The night started to come to and end and by that time I had got my beat down and the floors were now slippery wet, so I slid around doing my own thing. The ended with “no woman, no cry” and “three little birds”-which has a perfect way of telling about life. “I woke up this mornin’, smiled at the risin’ sun. three little birds sittin’ on y door step- singin sweet songs with melodies pure and true singin ‘this is my message to you’ don’t worry about a thing, ‘cause every little thing is gonna be alright”. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~REAL The Racist War on Drugs 90% of blacks in the United States have voted for Democratic candidates over the last few decades. President Bush could get rid of as many black voters as needed in possible in key states such as Florida. Since Bush and friends have learned to count votes, not all of our votes count. 31% of Florida’s population were prevented from voting due to felony convictions. Florida and 11 other former states of the confederacy disenfranchise felons for life rather than restoring their voting rights after they are released from prison. 13% of all black men were barred form voting contrasted to only 2% white men. 14% of illegal drug users are black, but 55% of those convicted for drug felonies are black, and 74% of all sentenced for drug possession are black. In New York State, almost 95% of those in prison for drug offenses are the people of color, but the fact is the majority of people, and the majority of drug users are white. “The majority determines the rights of the minority.”-Chief Justice William Rehnquist. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RAMBLINGS there are new "groovy" m&ms with little sparkles
