I finally dragged myself to a show, my first since christmas, on Feb. 9th. It was at The Zone on Horton st., which tends to be one of my favorite venues because it's all kids and kids tend to let loose and have fun more then people at bars. I had originally gone because I told The Deportees, the head-liners, that I would go to their last show at The Embassy, but I couldn't make it. So when I heard about this show I decided to make sure could go. Unfortunately, their singer was sick (Rumor has it that it was mono) so they didn't play.
My disappointment soon disappeared when Small Time Heros took te stage...or floor, rather. The Drummer was absolutely amazing, and the singer was a little shy so he sung with his back to us, which I thought was funny. The show got really good when the bassist kicked the guitarist/singer in the shin, and the guitarist/singer kicked back. It ended with the guitar/singer getting kicked in the bollocks.
The Room took the floor and it was yet another impressive drummer (it seemed to be the night of great drummers), and overall, the show and music was good, but more impressive was their selection of shiny, expensive-looking equipment.
The Cause If Anything guitarists were the ones who stole the show. I was a utterly fascinated by their daft fingers and their music was a good mix of a sort of NoFX-old-school-smash-your-head-in type of punk. A great was to end a pretty good (even though mellow) show. I was disappointed, though, by the lack of mosh pit.
