A Man Called Noah
by J.C. Pinkerton

In ancient times a man named Noah along with his wife, his three sons and their wives, left their old world behind to start a brand new age. In Noah's day we learn from the Bible that the Earth was full of sin and violence.

Does it remind you of our world today?

To answer that question, one only has to turn on their local news station. According to the Bible, God was sorry he made man, so he decided to erase his master plan and start all over again. We do the same thing today, especially writers. How many times have you destroyed a whole manuscript only to start over again? True, people are much more important than a manuscript, but people have the power to bring judgement upon themselves.

I'm not saying I agree, or disagree for it was not my business to tend to, but God's. God decided that Noah was the only faithful man on the Earth. At that time all civilization was gathered in one area, not spread out over the planet like it is today. God told Noah to build a tremendous ark of gopher wood so he could carry not only his family, but also plenty of animals for the New World.

God instructed Noah to make the ark big enough to carry any people that wanted to go but unfortunately nobody wanted to. Noah and his family were the only ones who would listen to God. The people thought Noah was a madman, and they laughed at him and his sons, but they continued their work on the ark.

How many men and women today would keep working on a huge project such as this while the whole town came to laugh and make sport of them? Most people today would be much more concerned with their reputations than listening to what God had to say.

Soon the heavens opened up and for forty days and nights it rained upon the earth. But Noah, his family and the animals sailed on, tucked safety inside the ark. When the ark finally came to rest, it landed upon a high mountain where civilization started all over again.

Since we are all descendants of Noah, who came from the line of Seth,Adam's son, it seems we should be able to get along with one another, doesn't it? One would think a kinship would develop between all mankind, no matter what culture or race.

Truth is, we might all be descendants of Noah, but we certainly don't live like Noah. If we did, we would have peace on Earth and love for one another. In other words, we would be a society of people living as God intended for us to live. Instead, today many people make jokes about Noah, and his famed ark. Some say he wasn't real, only a myth.

But I say he did exist and because of his obedience to God, we are here. Thus, allowing us to receive one of many-treasured God giving gifts -- the rainbow. At times I am still able to look up after a big storm and feast my eyes upon a colorful bow stretching across the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains. That's when I know Noah is indeed real and so is the creator of the rainbow.
