WHY AMERICAN MEN ARE PREFERRING FILIPINA, PINAY, LADIES IN THE PHILIPPINES AS PEN-PALS, BRIDES AND PARTNERS... AND THE NUMBERS ARE RAPIDY INCREASING!! (AND SO ARE THE PROBLEMS, SCAMS, GAMES, ABUSES AND HORROR STORIES AND INVESTIGATIONS DIRECTLY RESULTING THEREFROM!) MEN ARE NOW CHECKING OUT THEIR FILIPINA, PINAY LADIES PRIOR TO SPENDING THE BIG BUCKS ONLY TO BE HEARTBROKEN.
* With the effects of women's equality and women's liberation movemant, the divorce rate in America currently at almost 60% and climbing, most of the time with the courts awarding the house, car, kids, child-support and more to the ex-wife (often with no other reason than the fact she is a woman), American men are searching elsewhere to find the perfect wife.
* After numerous bad experiences with American women following divorces, most of these men have become disenfranchized with the ladies here in good old USA.
* As a result of the above, Internet Pen-Pal clubs and/or so-called Mailorder Bride Agencies have sprung up in at a fantastic rate. With those from asia or the orient (primarily Philippines and Thailand) and Eurpoean and Russian countries in the lead. (See Link to Comprehensive List of Internet Pen Pal Clubs Below.)
* With numerous television and print media expose's on organized crime in the Russian pen-pal, pen-friend or mail order bride clubs or agencies, and the problems promulgated therefrom, an evergrowing number of single men are looking to the beautiful filipina, pinay of the Philippines for thier perfect wife or soul mate.
WHY THE PHILPPINES? NUMEROUS REASONS!
* First, the Philippines is a former U.S. Colony, which has enjoyed an American presence since 1946, and in which English has become a second language to many of the Filipino people.
* Second, the Filipino people are very loving, (especially the filipina, pinay ladies) of American's, both men and women alike.
* Third, the filipina, pinay ladies and girls are among the most beautiful in the world, with those of Thailand running a close second. However, the Philippines has the advantage of greater American-Filipino interaction, trust, commerce, and language. Two excellent examples of this is the fact that the 100 Piso bill has both the American and Philippine flags on it's face, and the American Eagle adorns the 25 centavo coin. Now THAT's love and committment!
* Fourth and probably most importantly is the fact that as a general whole, the Filipina. Pinay women are not only beautiful inside and out, but generally, most filipina ladies are: shy, polite, loving, caring, loyal, industrious, hard working, religious and god fearing, family oriented women with no inclinations toward divorce. Lest we forget, most filipina ladies are also great cooks, many in both Pilipino and American cuisines!
* Fifth, no divorce! In the Philippines there is no such thing as a divorce law. In fact, President GMA, in 2001, just declined an attempt by politicians to introduce a bill that would allow divorce in the Philippines. (There is annulment with only three grounds accepted as annulment grounds.) It seems that as a general rule, only the filipina, pinay ladies who work in the internet cafe's, or who are educated, from the big cities, are keenly aware of the ease with which divorce can be obtained in the United States. American men are finding that those ladies from the barios, barangays and puroks of the provinces do not have the "divorce mentality" of those who are more apt to have contact with Americans, primarily off the internet and in the big cities.
* Sixth, as a general whole, the Filipina, Pinay from the Philippines, are quicker and have easier time adapting to the American lifestyle. Much due to the American influence in the Philippines. Not just in language, but also due to the commerical contacts they have with American companies and food chaines.
* Seventh, since most filipina, pinay have at one time experienced, or are currently experiencing extreme poverty and the conditions therefrom, they tend to be much more appreciative of what both life in the United States, and their American husbands have to offer.
ENTER - THE PROBLEMS!
* Unfortunately, as with all good things, there is also the bad.
* Even though the majority of filipina, pinay are loyal, honest, loving caring ladies, the ever-increasing presence of the internet has also injected ever-increasing abuses.
* Whether associated with organized so-called "syndicates", or just ladies and families who are simply trying to survive and provide food, shelter and clothing in a super-impovished economy, the number of stories wherein American men who are in good faith seeking filipina, pinay wives (asawa) are increasing.
* What starts out simply, as an internet pen-friend or pen-pal contact or relationship, will often quickly move into a pen-pal fiancee relationship to someone they have never seen or met in person.
* Men are often taken by, or fall in love with the "screen image" that he is led to believe from the lady (and sometimes even men) on the other side of the connection or chat room. They forget that they only know what they have been told or have seen. And all is not well on the internet!
PLAYING THE PEN-PAL CLUBS & CHAT ROOMS,
AND OTHER SCAMS & ABUSES:
* To understand this phenomenon, one must first understand that even though the Philippines is one of the greatest, most beautiful countries in the world, with some of the most beautiful and personable people in the world, the Philippines and its people are experiencing extreme poverty at a rate second to none. Therefore, many of it's people must do whatever they can to support themselves, their children and families.
* The invent and introduction of the internet to the Philippines has also served to create a "cottage industry" of sorts.
* The internet is now greatly impacted by persons (both men and ladies) who "play the internet" and the pen-pal clubs and chat rooms. (Search any pan-pal or matrimonial site and you will probably find that with the possible exception of Russia or USA, there are more filipina, pinay from the Philippines in it's membership than any other country!)
* Many of these filipina, pinay girls and ladies are not what they profess to be! Some not even being ladies! It seems that most will claim to be single, available, looking, and more often then not, virgins. However, there are ever-increasing reports and stories of American men who begin an internet relationship with someone, and soon thereafter they find that they have been "eased" into sending cash (called a "baon") on a regulat basis to their cyber partner. More often than not, the American man is then led into what he believes is a "fiancee" type relationship, and the amount of money that is sent is usually accordingly increased at this point, in anticipation of marriage to the lady who's facade or screen-personality he has fallen in love with.
* Often times the person at the other end will not ask "directly" for money (although soe might), but will often makes subtle "comments" regarding family hardships, such as needing money for school, studies, projects, medical problems with a family member, repairs on the house, some even ask big money in order to prepare for and obtain their passports and visa's (most documents in Philippines are relatively cheap compared to here), or even just the claim that she can not be on line to chat or e-mail him because she has no money. (This one is very common and usually nets aout $5-$10 per week from him).
* Some of the scams, abuses and stories include but are not limited to surprises to the American wherein he later travels there only to find out that his lady friend
* (1) claimed to be a virgin with no experience, but finds she has a child which is being watched by her family or lola (grandmother). When some of these ladies are visited by their American, Canadian or other pen-pal "fiancee's", they may have their baby sent to a relative's house until the American leaves, just as in some cases the husband, "live-in" (common-law husband) will also return to his home province while the unsuspecting foreigner visits his wife (yes, poverty makes families do whatever they must to survive, and often times the lady can earn more off of numerous foreigners than her live-in or husband can make working in a fish pond, or in the rice fields, etc.);
* (2) already has a husband. In most of these cases, the husband actually knows and often times even assists the lady in playing the pen-pal clubs and chats, for the family income is dependent on what the American men are sending. In many cases, the money is so important that the husband or live-in (what we here call common-law-husband) will leave the house while the American is there. Even if he is there a couple weeks. Some of these ladies or families may be telling twenty (20) or more American men that each is the love of her life and each is her fiancee..... Sometimes this can be picked up on when the lady answers a question he never even asked, and/or provides duplicate statements as he has already received; and/or she does not allow him to make contact with her at home, maybe only by cellular, and/or she only allows him to call her at the cyber cafe (many of these ladies who "take advantage", either work in the cyber cafe's, where they have access, or make daily "treks" to the internet cafe each day... remember that internet cafe's usually cost between 40 and 80 pisos per hour in the Philippines. (Now, if one lady is receiving only $5 per week from 10 potential "fiancee's", that is $50 per week (anout 2,500 pisos at current rate), or $200.00 per month which is 10,000 pisos! This is big money in Philippines!);
* (3) has already been petitioned by other american or other foreign men. Including those from Australia, Germany, Japan, Italy, New Zealand and other countries.;
* (4) may have used bogus names during the entire pen-pal relationship, therefore do not have necessary legal documents required for passports or immigration;
* (5) has a legal or medical problem which will preclude her from being acceptable by the US Embassy. This can include STD's (sexually transmitted diseases; TB or other infectuous diseases which are common there, or major civil or criminal cases;
* (6) may have worked in the clubs of any of the major cities, thus making it highly probably that she already has a male partner, may engage in prostitution, and may meet many men through so-called "tours". Tour's will often take numerous american men to Philippines, or have someone in Philippines meet a group of men, who are then introduced to numerous ladies who work in the disco's, clubs, karaoke's and dens.
* (7) may have already been in USA or other country and then gone "TNT", meaning failed to return when they were supposed to, staying as an illegal alien until deported back to USA.
* (8) may have been born as an illegitimate child with natural father already dead, unable to verify paternity. Other complications can set in on this one... a real beaurocratic nightmare.
* (9) ..... and a myriad of other scams, games, horror stories and warnings. Those presented herein below representing just a few.
* In some cases, men who have gone over have been victimized by robbers. However, we will focus on this problem in a future issue.
* Remember, the majority of Filipina, Pinay are absolutely wonderful, loyal, loving, caring, industrious and honest. However, with the increasing regularity of syndicates and scams, and poverty, foreign men must be aware of the existence of the above problems, so that they can make a knowing and intelligent decision, as well as having the choice to take a closer look at their so-called mail-order bride.
* Many American men are now researching on the internet and reading postings, articles and web pages about such stories and incidents which have happened to others, and are now starting to save their money, time, resources and heartache by having the filipina, pinay checked out passively. ENTER THE PHILIPPINE TRAVELER TO THE RESCUE!
* Tucked away in the internet is an obscure, hard to find webpage that has been there for years. Long before the influx of internet pen-pal clubs, tour agencies and the like, Philippine Traveler was helping American men with their questions and/or problems pertaining to Philippines, and filpina, pinay pen-pals, fiancee's and wives, as well as the immigration questions and forms related thereto. Making it even harder to locate with the Search Engines is the fact that the server on which PT was former located for years, suddenly went off line. Without the link below, maybe even those reading this article could not locate the site by search engines. A real shame, since this is truly one of the best, and most honest site operators we have found! Saving many an american or canadian man from falling victim to frauds, deceipt and misrepresentations made under the guise of "romance", "love" and future "marriage", usually to the savings of hundreds or even thousands of dollars!
* Since 1989, Philippine Traveler has been making numerous trips to the Philippines. His services began when some local Filipino - Americans asked him to check out the status of their properties and family in the Philippines, and they were so impressed they told others, who told others, and before long every time he made a vacation, family visit or business trip to Philippines, it seemed others wanted him to travel to their province and run some errand, make photos, videos, etc. for them. Soon a couple local white american men asked him to "stop in" and make some photos and videos of their pen-pals, their families, business, etc..
* Now Philippine Traveler's web page has become a hot-spot for those who have long-distance and internet pen-pal, pen-friend relationships. Those who would rather have an impartial report and photography of their internet or cyber mates prior to spending thousands of dollars for airline tickets, gifts, hotels, domestic air travel and more. Also in attempt to avoid heart-crushing situations they might find when they get there, or even worse, if he is tricked and does not find the problem until after she is already here and he is married!
* After many many years of travel to many islands and provinces of the Philippines, his deep understanding of the Philippines, his knowledge of the Filipino language (tagalog), plus the expertise gained working with and/or for law firms and attorneys in California, including immigration petitions, gathering supporting documents, etc., Philippine Traveler is uniquely qualified to assist others.

* This is why it is strongly recommended that first-timers to Philippines do not go alone. Just as when you are walking in the Philippines, you should always have a companion, as the locals do! Besides, if you do not speak the language or know the customs and rules and warning signs, people can be speaking right in front of you and you won;t even have a clue as to what they are saying! In other words.... USE COMMON SENSE & LOGIC!!

(Some Americans Have Even Been Busted!!)
* Not only are they illegal in a country where you will have no civil rights if busted, but they are morally wrong! In addition, many men who take these tours are not aware that most of the ladies are actually night-life ladies, drug addicts, prostitues and/or of bar fines to the mamasans! (As requirements in most bars, it is understyood by the ladies that if a man pays the bar-fine, then she must go with him and submit to him for the rest of the night with little or no right of refusal. Please do not get caught up in such exploitation! And for God's sake, keep your search for a wife or friend to legal aged ladies only!!) We suggest you avoid these tours if possible! You should also know that many of these "tours" make money in (1) the airline tickets; (2) the introduction services; (3) the bar, club or hotel which arranges the so-called introduction blasts, socials or parties, and more, including chaging the ladies and/or thier families for the introduction or subsequent marriage! Most so-called "tours" start at about $2,000.00.
* We strongly suggest that it is much better for you to meet a nice lady in person!
