The group had already begun the party when Jacob and Nicole arrived. The loud music of the room preceded the cloud of smoke that rushed out of the room when Jacob and Nicole entered. “Where ya been?” Scotty yelled over the music. “Had to get the girls and the booze, well the booze then the girls, the most important first ya know,” Nicole gave Jacob a callous look as he apologized to her half smirking to Scotty. “You know I’m just playing with you baby, you always come before the beer.” She smiled as he took her hand and walker her over to the sofa to sit between Scotty and Sue. “Nicole, you look great tonight,” Sue said, “Sure did get dressed up to come over here and get trashed.” Nicole looked uncomprehendingly not knowing that the intentions of the night were to intoxicate her. “Why would Jacob want me to get wasted?” she thought to her self. “He’d always liked me sober before, is he planning on trying something with me tonight? If he thinks he might get somewhere with me drunk that he wouldn’t with me sober he had better think again.” “Nicole! Nicole! Are you even listening?!” someone yelled over the loud bass notes of Outkast’s “Hey ya” that was now playing for the consecutive third time. “Have a beer Nicole, you look like you need one,” Jacob said loudly as he approached opening the long neck Miller Lite with a twist of his wrist. A cloud of foam oozed over the lip of the bottle as Jacob pressed his hand over the top of it and handed it quickly to Nicole. “Hurry, drink the foam before it spills on you, it doesn’t taste as good as the actual beer, but it’s a good start.” Nicole hurryingly gulped down the foam, she thought the beer tasted bitter, but also thought that Jacob might not like her as much if she didn’t drink it so she swallowed with a smile.
“One won’t hurt, its only one, I may not have drank before but I remember Mom telling me ‘one won’t hurt, but after two call Curt (That was Nicole’s mom’s boyfriend who always seem to be understanding in these types of situations.’” Nicole thought as she took her second bitter swallow with another fabricated smile of enjoyment. “Nicole likes beer, she must be a keeper.” Nicole over heard Zach telling Jacob in the kitchen as Jacob was returning with a beer for himself. “I already knew she was a keeper before that, that’s just one of the many aspects that make her such a great girlfriend.” Jacob replied to Zach as he assembled himself on the sofa closely next to Nicole. He knew Nicole had overheard his comment to Zach even if she didn’t mention it later. It would aid greatly in helping Jacob achieve his chief obligation of the night. “You know I think you get prettier every time I see you,” Jacob said in a strong southern draw which seemed to be occurring even more strongly after his seventh Miller Lite of the evening. “Your eyes look tired Nicole, are you sure you wouldn’t rather go some place more quiet like outside on the porch or to watch television in the other room.” Jacob asked. “I’m fine right now, but I would like another beer.” Nicole replied. She thought if she could drink this one slowly enough she might able to get by with asking for one more and not have to leave the security of the others in the room before the night ended. Surely after she’d finished three slowly she wouldn’t be too wasted to go home, certainly it would time to go before he would have a chance to ask again. “Here ya go babe,” Jacob said as he popped the top off another long neck. This time the foam didn’t spill over; he was very careful and even wrapped it in a napkin trying to get all the brownie points he could before the night was over. “I wrapped it up for you so your hands wouldn’t get cold, you do look awfully cold, are you sure you wouldn’t rather go somewhere warmer, I could turn the heater on in my truck for you.” Nicole replied, “Not just yet, but soon we probably could spend a few minutes there, or somewhere else private before we left.” Nicole felt the effects of the alcohol beginning to become all the more obvious to her; it was beginning to more entertaining to tease Jacob with the idea that his fantasy might actually come true tonight. “Well on second thought let’s go right now, I really want to talk to you about something, I’ve got something you need to know about.” “Scotty’s room would probably be more suitable for conversation, let’s go there instead,” Jacob replied. “I’ll make sure the heater is on, and grab another beer.” He said as he was quickly standing up and rushing towards Scotty’s room. “I’ll be right there as soon as I get my purse out of your truck, I have to get my phone and call my mother to tell her the movie will be showing a little late tonight.” Jacob thought to himself that if the movie wasn’t unrated then it would definitely be over sooner than expected and she wouldn’t have to worry. The screen door creaked closed as Nicole went out and Jacob waited patiently rested on the dim lit mattress of Scotty’s bed...
