CHAT N' CHEW *****
10 East 16th Street, New York (East Village)
somewhere in/near East Village, near 2nd or 3rd Ave

If you're feeling really hungry and in the mood for some good old American food, head down to Chat 'n Chew. We (Sam, Vi, me, and their friends Greg and Chris) arrived there starving around 8 p.m. - it was Sam's idea to go there - because Vi and the guys came later than expected.

The restaurant walls are plastered with old advertising material, and little novelty things reminiscent of 1950s America. We headed to the back to sit down and boy, was it crowded! (It was a Friday night.)

I ordered the Kitchen Sink salad [~US$8.95#] - I regretted it later, it was SO big - while Sam and Violet decided to share mains/entrees and order separate appetisers. Sam had the oysters and Vi ordered onion strings [~US$4.95#]. For mains they got mac(aroni) & cheese [~US$6.95#] and a beef hot dog with chilli. The guys ordered pork chop and a beef burger (can't quite remember the last one).

MISS MAMIE'S SPOONBREAD TOO **
366 West 110th Street, New York
between Columbus Ave and Manhattan Ave

Apparently Bill Clinton is a VIP at this place, although I can't really understand why. A bunch of us had dinner there the other day, and I was rather disappointed. Maybe I just don't know how to appreciate it, but I found the food quite ordinary, and therefore slightly overpriced.
