Rapidan Saga
by Carl Ennui

Rapidan Saga is an epic adventure that tells the story of a right-minded elven prince, a high-strung dwarven warrior, and a relic hunting human. They meet in Fort Arien, the newly built Dwarf Empire, where the most unlikely of things comes to past. Through the power of friendship and individual courage, the three characters come to know and respect each other while discovering a new world. The saga centers on these characters, who are unknowingly being guided by an unseen hand. While a dark ominous power in the east has corrupted the son of Morathan, King of Morath, it is in these lands that the three adventurers must find the answers.

Characters in Rapidan Saga

Sonora Dain is a relic hunting human from the west lands who specifically is on a quest to find rare crystals and gems. She is 19 years old, stands five feet and eight inches tall, and has long brown hair that is braided to her lower back. A small scimitar accompanies her everywhere she goes but she really doesn’t know how to use it, despite being trained back in her homeland.

Everard Ceurce is an action-intense dwarf who likes to make quick remarks. He is seemingly a nice person but is easily frustrated by every small thing that comes along his path. Beneath the rugged, warrior, twenty-three year old exterior is the educated son of a wealthy father. His first desire to go on adventures was when he discovered that much of his own culture and histories were being forgotten and that hardly any of it was written. Most of what was written was beginning to disappear, and his only thought over the last couple years has been about recovering these things.

Palen Aoide, the elven prince of Elnora is usually depressed and spends time by himself to reflect on thoughts. He grew up with the belief that his mother was dead, but after growing older he senses a strong urge to search for her, that she may still be alive somewhere. Everyone thinks of him as being reckless and stupid, but he just likes to have fun.

Places in Rapidan Saga

Nore is a large forested island in the crossroads of the ocean. It is the home of Fort Arien, the new Dwarf Empire. To the east is Morath, land of the half-bloods, or mixing pot. In Morath there are strange creatures and even stranger places that the adventurers will end up.

In the north are the Cold Caps, a barren wasteland of snow and buried history from long ago. Mountains rise up from the ground and open wide tunnels for people explore in but never come out of. To the west are the seemingly tame human lands. In the west, the humans are busy inventing and concocting new technology in an attempt to make life easier. There are few humans left, and those who are seldom leave the cities.

The Blue Islands lay to the south-east and brag beautiful blue sand beaches with tropical fish and great sunny weather. The forests here are like jungles but nobody has explored them. The beaches are all that people care of. Elnora Forest is an entire continent in the south-west. The elves live this land as American Indians once lived in the American west. They respect all creatures, people, and nature.

From episode #001

A cold wind moves gently over the eastern island of Nore, an island of deep valleys cut into forested rolling hills and sandy beaches. Ancient trees that have lived an eternity loom over all and seem to hold sway over Mother Nature. The trees though, are bare from the wrath of fall and kneel before the coming of a new year, a new winter.

The Erinyes Dwarves moved here only three years ago and claimed their new home. Here they began building the great stone fortress called Arien, which sits in the crevice of two fertile mountains on the southern shore. They were lucky to have found such an abundant land of resources ripe for the picking, yes, but they had no idea of the creatures that lived here.

Buildings on the south side were nice and well-kept from the wear and tear of everyday use. Business signs hanging from chains blew back and forth in the cold breeze, making Sonora shiver. Winter was on its way and it was an odd time for flowers, she thought, but the Erinyes Dwarves were always weird.

From episode #002

The prince of Elnora stood before the door into Arien Castle and looked out into the city. He had heard the horn and ran immediately out from the chamber. A master sword sat firmly against his right thigh, and although he wore only leather on this day and not armor, he welcomed some action.

“Aoide, stay with us you should. This battle is not for you.” One of his royal body guards suggested, but was blown off as usual by the reckless prince.

“Those dwarves need help.” He said quickly, “and my name is Palen.” The elven prince unsheathed his sword and looked at the blade thoughtfully, then back to the south gate. “If you stay here, you won’t be doing your job.” He ran down the majestic stone steps and through the main street towards the gate, both guards followed.
