I don't remember when I wrote my first story. But I do remember the drawings I made in first grade- they formed a graphic novel before I knew what a graphic novel was and told stories on paper when I did not yet have the words to put them in writing. The story always focused on the same character: a green dragon with a pot belly and a squished, horse-like face.

Ever since, I have been writing in the shadow of that dragon. Having been raised watching movies like The Flight of Dragons, The Last Unicorn, and Space Firebird, fantasy is more than an escapist hobby to me. It is the ideal genre for showing life in all its depths, its heights, its patches of silver and gold and the occasional stain of gray and black. The darker colors tend to make more interesting stories, fortunately or unfortunately, and so most of my work could be classified as dark fantasy.

When I'm not writing, you'll probably find me walking by the sea/woods, role-playing, reading, acting in theater, fencing, playing computer games (my favorites being Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, The Longest Journey, and Planescape: Torment), making pizza at my job in town... oh yes, and working toward my degree while staying sane.

Songs of the Maker is a pure delight to write because it fulfills a longing of my own: blending two worlds, that of modern reality and another of dreams, magic, and mystical connections. I suppose I'm also half-hoping that if June can find a place for magic in our world... maybe I can too.

And that blasted dragon from the first grade will finally be satisfied.
