Love JKRC Style: JKRC Instructor Judy Malley Becomes Judy Velicky

“It took 51 years, but I finally got there.”  These words, accompanied by a big smile, were the ones that sprang to Judy’s lips as we sat down to discuss her recent nuptials.  Yes, gentle readers, on December 20th of the year 2004, long time JKRC technology instructor Judy Malley tied the knot with her fiancé Joe to become Mrs. Judy Velicky.  The ceremony was performed by Bridgewater mayor Patricia Flannery at the Bridgewater Municipal Building with only the couple and a witness present.

But wedded bliss was not a foregone conclusion on that frozen December day.  As a matter of fact, word has it that the happy pair was late for the wedding!  So it is not just the morning meetings!  First, Judy and Joe had trouble getting the door to their new apartment to lock, and as if this were not enough, although the groom’s feet remained plenty warm, the same can not be said of his car, which was quite cold and reluctant to start and get them to the church on time.  Their witness, Alice O’Reilly, JKRC academic skills instructor, claims that the couple was nearly thirteen minutes late and that she was beginning to fear that the Bridgewater mayor would have to continue with her busy schedule and the wedding would be put off for another day.  However, just as all hope seemed lost, the cavalry rode in with the happy couple, the day was saved and marital bliss lay just around the corner.

Joe and Judy, who met for the first time on Valentine’s Day, have no immediate plans for a honeymoon; however, there exists the possibility of a future cruise along with a renewal of vows in front of a full contingent of family and friends.  Overall though, Judy seems very happy and all of us here at the JKRC join in wishing her all the best.  As Judy says without a touch of irony, “I finally got over the rainbow; dreams really do come true.”
