Wednesday, June 9th marked the date for the anxiously anticipated shore excursion to Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Point Pleasant is a small beach-front community with a boardwalk. All along the boardwalk are many attractions and activities for visitors such as playing games for prizes, riding amusement rides, shopping at novelty shops, and enjoying delectable fun foods–all yours for the right price. They even have an aquarium. But the most pleasant thing about Point Pleasant is its size–small enough to divert large crowds, but large enough to satisfy all shore pleasures. The evening that the JKRC students and staff visited Point Pleasant the small attraction lived up to its name; it was a pleasantly beautiful boardwalk to visit on a warm summer evening.

The JKRC voyagers to Point Pleasant traveled via the JKRC bus driven by one of the night staffers. One of the students, Jerry, won a large fluffy brown teddy bear and an orange monkey named George for Latanya; and he won an ugly little duck for Regina. One of the game merchants allowed a free game because of our vision impairment and Frank, who is a totally blind student, won a little stuffed Elmo! We feasted on funnel cake, cheese steaks, pizza, frozen custard, cookies, drinks, and cardboard-like cotton candy. We all agreed–both staff and students alike–the warm summer evening and the gentle ocean breeze combined with the boardwalk and beach made Point Pleasant a summer attraction that truly lives up to its name.
