* Giebler 2004 * Letter #1 * November 21st, 2003 *
Dear Family,
Greetings from the two coasts! We know you have been waiting patiently for news of the 2004 Giebler Family Reunion. After considering locations on both seaboards, we came to the conclusion that it would be more convenient for most of you to go to a mid-west location.
Further research lead us to Hannibal, Missouri. Hannibal is located on the Mississippi River about 100 miles north of St. Louis. Most of you are probably familiar with it. We feel it is a fairly convenient location with lots of activities in the area. Mark Twain's hometown calls itself "America's Hometown" and we hope to make it ours, too, at least for three days.
Those three days are June 25-27. We have been making arrangements with the Hannibal Inn and Conference Center. More detailed info will follow regarding reservations at this lodging and others in the area. We will have our Saturday dinner and the Sunday Farewell breakfast at the Inn. Tentatively the Welcome cookout will be at a local park where we can reserve a shelter with picnic tables.
To compliment the traditional Mass-with-dinner on the Saturday, we are trying to put together a couple of displays. Marty would like everyone to send him individual photos of each person in each household so he can construct a giant family tree. Wallet size would be ideal. Kids school pix are great. Kathy would like to get copies of special family recipes. These can be handed down from the previous generations or brand new favorites, from scratch or from a cookbook. The important thing about both of these projects (but especially the pictures) is that every family contributes even if they cannot attend the reunion.
Rachael is working on a T-shirt design to compliment the family tree theme. Future correspondence will detail order information and we will bring them to Hannibal.
Below is a list of our snail mail and e-mail addresses. Also listed is the reunion website Rachael has constructed. All mailings will be put on the website.
Please send a copy of this letter to your immediate family and ask them in turn to send it to the next generation. Or, if they are hooked up to the internet, they can access the website and print the pages themselves.
We will keep you all posted as we work out the details of what we hope will be a joyful and fun-filled reunion.
