Graffiti has become one of the largest growing pop culture phenomenons that attracts people from all over the world.  There are two different and distinct forms of graffiti.  The first is gang insignia, which is used as territorial markers and to communicate the status of individual members.  The other form of graffiti is aerosol art.  This form of graffiti is a way of life.  Each writer has his/her own tag which distinguishes them from others and is also their claim to 'fame'.  The object is to tag as many surfaces as possible in order to gain recognition and the more unique the surface or locations the more fame.  In order to maximize their goal, some writers may form crews, which can consist of as many members as 3 or 50.  A crew usually has its own name, whereby each member in the crew has their own 'code'.  On the street, writers are refered to by 'code' name and coincides with their particular tag.
With the expansion of the Internet, it has become easier for writers to showcase their talents.  There are countless sites on the Internet that bring this community closer together.  From magazines that keep tabs on all the lastest news to private sponsered shows that encourage writers to come out and display their art.
