The Death of Magellan

On March 16, 1521, Magellan and his crew reached the island of Homonhon in the Philippines. While they were there, there was a battle between Magellan's crew and the natives. This battle was called the Battle of Mactan. Ferdinand Magellan was killed in this battle on April, 27. The remaining 18 sailors continued the circumnavagation and reached Spain 16 months later on September 6, 1521. Although Magellan did not survive to sail all the way around the world, he was the first man to ever cross the Pacific Ocean.
