AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 OYEZS

Michael Wood, the Town Crier for East Riding of Yorkshire and reigning World Champion, is off to Australia to defend his title in September. He will be competing against approximately 100 other criers from all over the globe.

Instead of just getting on a plane to Australia, however, Michael has planned to travel ?Around the World in 80 Oyezs?, extending greetings and goodwill messages from people in the UK to friends and relations along his intended route. As the original outside broadcast, other messages he plans to deliver include civic and corporate messages to overseas offices or business partners.

Michael intends to incorporate the East Riding motto, ?Tradition and Progress? into his trip. The ?tradition? aspect is obviously represented by his livery and delivery. To represent ?progress?, he is taking a laptop computer in place of a scroll, allowing him to store messages and giving him access to his website: www.hearyethis.com.

?Anyone will be able to buy a message on the website, whether they are a big business, club, association or Auntie Mabel,? said Michael. ?The laptop will give me access to all the latest messages as they come in throughout the trip and allow me to update folks with a daily blog.?

A percentage of the money raised is going to the charity, Children in Crisis. ?This is a wonderful charity that offers hope and benefit to children around the world?, said Michael"

Might be worth looking up .

Hopfeully he starts a blog real soon.

Retired Los Angeles History teacher Reads Declaration of Independence in Maine
Mood:  silly
SOUTH PORTLAND - Shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, Dick Bernard will don the 18th-century costume that his neighbor, Rommy Brown, tailored just for him. Then he'll grab the town crier's bell another neighbor, Max Brown, loaned him and an enlarged copy of a parchment document supplied by yet another neighbor, sign maker Jack Reckitt.

Bernard will then walk down the steps of his home at the end of E Street, make the short walk to Legion Square (ringing his bell all the way) and stand atop a platform before anyone who cares to witness a modern-day Thomas Jefferson reading, from start to finish, the Declaration of Independence.

All of which begs a question.

Why?

BLackpool Town Crier becomes Celebrity
Mood:  cheeky
A perfect pitch!

MICHAEL Owen MICHAEL Owen, a 5ft wedding cake, glass dance floors, a star-studded guest list and... Blackpool town crier Barry McQueen!
The larger-than-life 59-year-old was the surprise star at the lavish wedding blessing of the England striker and his beautiful bride, Louise Bonsall, at their #2m home on Saturday.
Fanfare
Self-confessed loudmouth Barry rubbed shoulders with a galaxy of A-listers as the toastmaster and fanfare trumpeter at Lower Soughton Hall near Northop in Flintshire – the day after the couple's top secret wedding.
Barry, of Lawson Road, Blackpool, brushed past the world's press gang to welcome the likes of Wayne Rooney and girlfriend Coleen, England 'keeper David James and celebrity jockey Frankie Dettori for the swanky bash.
But he doesn't have any pictures from the big day – Hello! magazine banned all cameras from the event after buying the rights to the blessing.
Barry, still struggling to wipe the smile off his face, said today: "It was absolutely magical from start to finish. Louise looked magnificent in her flowing dress and Michael is such a smashing

Sussex Town crier Goes National

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14713551&BRD=1918&PAG=461&dept_id=506898&rfi=6Town Crier is going national
By MIKE CONDON Editor 06/17/2005

MOUNT ARLINGTON – The borough’s former Town Crier will soon be the nation’s, at least for the national birthday celebration in July.

After admitting that he first had to get his feet back on the ground and his head out of the clouds, Bill Joseph is getting ready for the “cry” of his career.

He has been officially asked by the National Archives and Information Center, a federal government agency, to serve as “town crier” when the Declaration of Independence is “performed” live in the nation’s capital during the July 4 weekend.

Officially named borough town crier by former Mayor Dolores Rivinius in 1992, Joseph served in the post for 10 years, making public announcements at borough ceremonies for a decade.

Then, he was named the “official” crier in both Morris and Sussex counties.

A borough resident for the past 28 years, Joseph works for Morris County delivering meals for the “Meals on Wheels” program.

In 2001, he became the official town crier in Belvidere and soon, he’ll become town crier for the Somerset County Parks Commission. He recently hosted a “town crier” convention in Newton.

Wearing his officially realistic Revolutionary War uniform, Joseph said his job as “crier” is mainly to draw attention, attract the public and publicly announce a grand event, using a bell and what he described as his loud voice.

He “cries” about one event per month.
