Drawing Blue Jeans

(A working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro is assumed here.) Open up your doll. You should have one drawn but if not then you can check out the Tutorial Index and learn to draw a base body first. Anyway, assuming that you have one already, and that you have her open in Paint Shop, add a new layer to it. I have provided a color palette for these particular jeans, but you can use different colors, if you like. Some may want a darker blue or a lighter one.

Now taking your lasso tool, select the legs of the doll or where you want the jeans to be drawn.

Now flood fill it with your 2nd color.

Now we'll add shading, so choose the darker shade, and set your airbrush tool to size 2. Go around the edges of the pants with this color. Keep it selected. (I deselected mine so you could see it better, but I will select it again after showing you.)

We're going to use Gaussian Blur set at 1.00 and blur that line a bit to blend it. Then add a new layer.

On this layer, choose your lightest shade and your airbrush tool, set to 2. Draw in lines down the middle of the legs, where the light would hit.

Using 1.99, use Gaussian Blur again and blur that line to blend it like before.

Turn off your doll layer and Merge the rest.....all the layers with the pants and shading. Make sure this layer is the one that's active, and go up to "Effects", "Noise", "Add". Set this to 12%, Uniform. (You can play around with this if you like.)

Now, taking your darkest color once more, draw in the lines of the legs on the pants....the ones in the center.

Now the jeans are finished, but you may want to add some detail, like the little holes in the knees, etc. To draw those little holes, you simply erase part of the material where you want the hole to be. This is why you don't merge the doll with your pants. This way you can see the skin through it. Then using white, draw a few 1 pixel dots around the hole. See image.

I'm going to quickly add a t-shirt, and then we're finished. Add a new layer, and taking your lasso tool, outline the area for the t-shirt. Flood fill it with your color.

Next, choose a darker shade and on a new layer, set your airbrush tool to 2, and go around the edges with it. Then using Gaussian Blur, set it to 1.99 and blur this layer.

Add a new layer, and using your airbrush tool set to 2, draw in the breast outline with this same shade. Blur this also, same settings. Zoom in and be sure to check for paint spillover and erase it around the arm area etc if needed.

Deselect it, Layers, Merge Visible. Now just add stripes or decoration, etc. and you're finished.

And here's the finished product.

If you make something with this tutorial or any of them, I would love to see it and post it. But if you have any problems, feel free to email me.
