* Saturday night, Homecoming dance *
This was going to be some night, Jessica thought as she, Justin and the rest of the group entered the lovely decorated and bearly lit ball room. All of the other students seemed to be having a great time, as they danced to the music. But Jessica thought differently. She saw the way, Shannon looked at her, last night at the game. Jessica had nothing against her, but Shannon seemed to think otherwise. "Hey baby." Jessica smiled, as she saw Justin wrapping his arms around her. She sighed deeply, as she looked at him. He really cared about her. And Jessica was growing more certain that she was falling in love with him. And to be honest, it was scaring her more than anything.
"Hey Jess, let's dance." She heard Sylvia say, as she started dragging her on the dance floor. Jessica smiled, as she and Sylvia started moving their hips to the sounds of Usher's "Yeah." "Well, maybe I can try and have fun." She thought as she, Sylvia, and the rest of the girls started dancing.
The guys sat at the table, as they watched their dates dance amoungst themselves. Steven smiled, as he watched Sylvia shaking her hips to the music. "God she's beautiful." He said, his gaze never leaving her.
Justin smiled, as he looked at Steve. He's never seen his friend so truly happy and so deeply in love. The type of love that Steven and Sylvia have, would make any couple envy them. They had a true love, pure and sincere... His smile soon faded as he looked up to see Shannon walking towards him. "Hey sexy, what are you doing here all by yourself?" She asked, sweetly. Before Justin could answer, she lifted her dress alittle, as she sat on his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Shannon please." Justin started protesting, but Shannon wouldn't budge.
"C'mon Justin, just one little kiss." She pouted, as she inched her face closer towards his.
As if she were physic, Jessica turned in time to watch Shannon forcing herself on Justin. Her once happy face, turned sad as she watched the scene fold in front of her. She thought Justin was going to kiss Shannon, but to her surprise she saw Justin push her off of him. She stared at him blankly, as he made his way towards her, Steve right behind him. "Hey baby."He said. He smiled, as he kissed her deeply, not bothering that Shannon was shooting darts from her cold stare. He pulled away slowly, just in time to see Shannon walk away. "C'mon baby, let's dance." He said, as the sweet sounds of 98 degrees, "I Do." played all around them. After the announcement of the Homecoming court once again, the night turned out to be absolutely wonderful. Except for Shannon's angry stares towards Jessica and Justin.
* 7 months later. May 2004 *
Justin stopped walking as he looked over his shoulder. He smiled widely, as he saw Sylvia appoarching him. "Hey beautiful." He said, as he waited for her to catch up. "What's up?" He kissed her sweetly on the cheek, as they started walking again.
"Nothing, just can't wait to get home." She said, a small laugh escaping her lips.
"Yeah I hear you... So, how's Steve?"
"He's fine... Why do you ask?" She looked at him carefully.
He shurgged his shoulders. "I dunno. He's been acting kinda strange lately... I'm actually kinda worried." He said quietly. They stopped by her car, as he turned to look at her.
"You've noticed too huh?" She said softly, as she looked at the ground. "I'm scared Justin. I dunno what to do anymore."
Justin looked at her curiously. He didn't like the look she had in her eyes, or the sound of her voice. "Beautiful what's wrong?"
Sylvia lifted her head slowly. Revealing her red, teary eyes. She started crying softly, as Justin immediately wrapped his arms around her. "Oh my god beautiful.. Please, please tell me what's wrong..." He said, as he hugged her tightly.
"We didn't want anyone to know. We wanted to keep it a secret."
"Keep what a secret?" He asked quietly. He began to worry more, as she started crying harder. "Sylvia please... Tell me..." He pleaded.
"We broke up Justin!!! Me and Steve broke up!!!" She cried, as she pulled away from his strong embrace. "We've been broken up for 3 months. 3 whole months!!!" Her body trembled, as she continued crying. "He said, he didn't know what he wanted. That he wasn't sure if he wanted me to be in his life... So he broke up with me..." She looked at Justin, her eyes showing nothing but pain and emptiness. She jumped inside her car and drove off rapidly, leaving Justin standing in the parking lot.
Justin turned around slowly. "Was that Sylvia who left right now?" Justin sighed, as he looked at Steve angerly. "Justin?" Steve asked again. Before Steve could say anything, he saw Justin's fist going straight to his face, knocking him roughly to the ground.
"You stupid son of bitch!!!" Justin yelled, as he punched him again. "Why? Why did you have to hurt her?!?!" He yelled angerly, his eyes brimming with angry tears.
Steve looked at Justin. His lip was swollen and bleeding, his left eye was swelling, hints of purple coming into view. His eyes brimmed with tears and he looked shamefully towards the ground. "I'm sorry Jay..." He said quietly, the tears falling down his cheeks.
"How could you say those things to her?" He asked angerly. "How could you hurt her, after you promised me you wouldn't?"
"I've been so confused lately... With school and graduation... It was just too much. I was starting to think that I wasn't going to have any time for her... So I broke it off."
"I love her Steve.. You know I do... I love Sylvia more than anything. And seeing her right now and the way she was, the things that you said to her, made me remember the hell I put her through.... I don't want her to go through that again."
Steven sighed, as he wipped the tears away. "Forgive me Jay..." He said softly. He looked at him for one more minute and walked towards his truck.
"Baby?" Justin turned around and saw Jessica walking towards him. "What happened? I saw you and Sylvia and the way she left. Then I saw you hit Steve and started yelling at him... What's going on?" She asked, concern filling her voice.
"He broke up with Sylvia." He said quietly. He sighed deeply, as he looked at Jessica's wide eyes. He kissed her sweetly on the lips. "I'm gonna go to Sylvia's house."
"Okay. I understand." Jessica said. "Go... She needs you right now... Poor thing... Please give her my condolenses.."
Justin smiled slightly. "I will... I'll see you later. Love you" He kissed her once more, and got inside his car, as he headed towards Sylvia's house.
Sylvia cried softly, as she sat on her bed. She looked at her prom dress, as it hung neatly on her door. So much for the prom. She thought to herself. She looked up again, as her bedroom door opened slowly and close. It was Justin.
"Justin...." She said softly. Justin quickly ran up to her and wrapped his arms around her. "Why Justin.. WHY!?!?!" She cried into his shoulder.
"Shhhh..." He cooed her softly, as he gently caressed her back. "It's okay beautiful. It's okay. I'm here..." He took a deep breath, as he caressed her back. He had to be strong for her. He wanted to cry right there with her, but he knew it wouldn't help any. But he couldn't help it. His senses were lost. The way they were holding eachother brought back memories of when they used to be together. "I love you." He said softly, as he looked at her, his finger tracing over her lips.
Sylvia pulled away slowly, as she looked at him. The way he said 'I love you', was the way he used to say it when they were together. It was filled with passion, emotion, with want and need. "What?" She asked quietly.
"I love you." He said it the same way again, as he inched his face closer towards hers.
"Justin, what ar --" She stopped, as Justin started kissing her slowly. She pulled back after a few seconds, a look of disbelief covering her face. "Justin, what are you doing?"
Justin blinked a few times, after he realized what he had done. "I - I'm so sorry beautiful..." He said quickly. "I - I didn't mean to... I just... It was just... Oh my god... please... Please.. Forgive me..."
"Hey... Hey..." Sylvia said quietly. "Relax...." She smiled slightly. "It's okay... I didn't mind the kiss. But I do mind if you have a girlfriend and she's my good friend."
Justin laughed lightly. "I'm sorry." He said. He reached for her hands, as he held them within his... "You okay?" He asked softly. "How did this thing with Steve start?"
Before Sylvia could answer, her bedroom door began to open again. Both Justin and Sylvia turned to see who had entered her room. Both of them with wide eyes, as they looked at Steve, carrying with him two dozen red and white roses.....
