The primary purpose of this site is to bear witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon by understanding the meaning of the scriptures and how they apply to our lives.

The Book of Mormon scriptural references may be a little confusing. Hopefully, I can address them here.

For the benefit of those who use the RLDS 1908 edition or the LDS edition, I will reference both works. The reference will appear like this example--(I Nephi 1:1-2/1:1-3). The slant "/" separates the RLDS book from the LDS copy. In other words, the RLDS edition is on the left of the slant, the LDS on the right side--RLDS/LDS. The colons separate the chapters (left side) from the verses (right side). The dash "-" means more than one verse is involved in the quoted scriptures.

In the above example, the reference reads First Nephi chapter 1 verse 1 and 2 from the RLDS edition / First Nephi chapter 1 verse 1 to 3 of the LDS copy. I avoid redundancy by not repeating First Nephi (I Nephi) twice.

Other quotes from different verses in the same chapter will follow like this--(19-20/19). If I quote another chapter in I Nephi, the reference may appear this way--(2:1/6:1).

However, if I quote from another book in the Book of Mormon, the first whole reference will always be given--(Alma 1:42/1:28). On the other hand, if I revert to another First Nephi quote, the whole reference will be cited completely--(I Nephi 5:182-184/18:9)--in order to avoid confusion.

One last point. I will always quote from the RLDS 1908 copy, which is my preferred choice. Sometimes an important word or word phrase may not agree between the two editions. Next to the word in question I will place a bracket reference (LDS--____). The blank space "____" will contain the LDS version word or phrase.

Make it easy on yourself. Be sure to print all diagrams, which are called Figures, as you read the text. This will keep you from wasting time scrolling back and forth trying to locate the Figures.
