The day I was born
I was a spark in your eye
I looked up at you and smiled
You were my dad
You taught me how to walk
Taught me how to talk
Taught me how to get things
You taught me about life
Heading off to the first day of school
You held my hand as I waited for the bus
Waved until we rounded the corner
Starting me on my journey in life
Playing ball, climbing trees
Swinging and sliding
In the backyard of our home
Eating ice cream until we were sick
Now it’s time for growing up again
6th grade, Junior High
Wishing you could go back in time
Back to when I was just a little girl
Makeup, dances, boyfriends
Phone calls, sleepover, drugs
You taught me well and I’m glad you did
I know when to say no, when to ask for help
As we grow older, nothing changes
You’re still my dad; I’m still your little girl
Things may seem different but we know
We know the truth
Another change, another school
Getting closer to graduation
4 more years and it’ll be over
But not before enjoying High School
Driving, parties, football games
Heartbreaks, Proms, and Graduation
As the years come to an end, I’ve learned
To treasure the good times and forget the bad
Now I’m ready to head out into the real world
But I know that I’ll survive
Because you brought me up well
And I know you’re always gunna be with me
