A Day in the Life
Chapter Four

The next morning, Holly woke up to their mom yelling.
“Holly! Shannen!”
“Uh…” Holly crawled out of bed and stumbled into the hall.” Yeah, Mom?”
“Dan and Bryan are here.” She told her.
“What?” Holly exclaimed, “What time is it?”
“Quarter to one.” Her mom replied.
“Alright, lemme get Shannen.” She ran back upstairs, shook Shannen awake and ran back downstairs.
“Hey guys.” She said.
“Hey Holly.” They smiled.
“What?” She asked, “Yeah, I know I’m in my pajamas and bare feet. Leave me alone.”
They guys just laughed.
A minute later, Shannen walked downstairs, dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.
“Hey guys.” She said, “Uh, Holly, I’m done with the bathroom so you can use it.”
“Alright, I’ll be right back.” She turned and ran upstairs.
~*~*~*~
After walking around downtown for a while, the four of them handed to the horse stables. Neither of the girls were working so they decided to go riding. They could get themselves and one guest in free since they worked there.
“Hey Jesse.” Holly said. Jess was basically her horse because she loved and treated him like her own. Shannen’s horse was named Jamie. “You ready to ride?”
“Hey Jamie, you ready?” Shannen asked.
They all climbed onto their horses and headed off to the trails to ride.
~*~*~*~
After an hour and a half of trail riding and a half hour of riding the jump and courses, the four of them decided to leave the stables.
“We still have an hour and a half before we head to the carnival.” Bryan told them, “What do you want to do?”
“We could go to the Y and chill?” Shannen suggested.
“Yeah, that’s cool.” Dan replied, “They have the new lazer tag there.”
“Alright, let’s go.” Holly said.
They walked over to the Y and headed over to check out the special event schedule.
“There’s a Battle of the Bands in a half hour and lazer tag in five minutes.” Bryan read.
After a few minutes, they decided on lazer tag and then they would go check out the Battle of the Bands before they headed to the carnival. They were meeting Alex and Maddy at 7pm so they could go see the fireworks at 8. They had both had to go out of town to visit relatives so they wouldn’t be back until later. They headed to lazer tag and found a few of their friends getting ready to go in.
“Hey Drew!” Bryan said.
“Hey Bryan” Drew Lang replied, “Come on. We gunna have a huge battle!”
“Alright!” He replied, “You guys want to?
“Yeah.” They all replied and headed in.
~*~*~*~
After a half hour of playing lazer tag, they left the two floor maze-like rooms for the battle of the Bands.
“I hope this is good.” Shannen said, “Not like the last one that sucked.”
“Yeah, I remember that.” Holly agreed, “It was so stupid!”
“Well, we’re here so let’s find out, shall we?” Bryan asked.
“Let’s.” Holly replied with a laugh.
So they walked over into the crowd and headed to the front. Pentangle was playing.
~*~*~*~
“Well, this is loads of fun.” Holly announced twenty minutes later as they stood in the crowd.
“Yeah, especially cause the all suck.” Shannen said.
“That’s true.” Dan agreed, “Come on, why don’t we all go back to the house and chill there while we wait for Alex and Maddy?”
“Good idea cause I need to change before we go. I’m not wearing this, I’ll get eaten by mosquitoes.” Holly told them.
“Yeah, me too.” Shannen agreed.
“Alright, let’s go then.” Dan said.
They left the building and walked back to the McMahon house,
~*~*~*~
“Mom! We’re leaving for the carnival!” Holly yelled.
“Bye girls!” Bye Bryan, Dan! Have fun!” Their mom yelled back.
“Bye Mrs. McMahon!” The boys replied.
They left the house and walked to the bus stop. They got on the bus and rode downtown to the carnival.
“Everyone got their passes?” Dan asked as they walked to the gates.
“Yup.” Holly opened her baby-blue colored wallet and pulled it out.
“We still have a half hour before we have to meet them. Why don’t we go on some rides while we wait?” Bryan suggested.
“Skymaster!” Shannen and Holly exclaimed together. The Skymaster was the girls’ favorite ride. It was a ride that swung back and forth and then flipped all the way around, occasionally staying upside down for a few minutes.
“Alright, let’s go then.” Bryan took Holly’s hand and they made their way over to the Skymaster. There was a short line so they got on. Holly sat with Bryan and Shannen sit with Dan.
They went on the ride twice and then got off to find other rides to go on.
“The fireworks start at 9, right?” Dan asked.
“Yup. Alex and Maddy said they were gunna be here with Glen and Andy at 8ish but would meet us at quarter of 9 which gives us about a half hour before we have to head over.” Holly said as she hung up her cell phone.
“That was Alex.”
“Okay, so what’s next? Roller coaster?” Bryan suggested.
“And then the Ferris Wheel cause it’ll be really dark so it’ll be lit up.” Shannen said as they stood in line.
They got on the roller coaster and rode it a couple times.
~*~*~*~
By the time they got off the roller coaster, it was already dark.
“There’s only a little while ‘til the fireworks start.” Shannen informed them.
“Well, let’s go, get on the Ferris Wheel.” Holly said.
They walked into the line and got into a cart. Holly and Bryan on one side with Shannen and Dan on the other side. Once the ride started moving, Holly slide closer to Bryan.
“Isn’t is so cool.” She asked pointing out at the carnival all lit up.
“Yeah.” Bryan agreed.
At that moment, the ride stopped. They were at the very top.
“Oh, I love being stuck at the top.” Holly said.
“Me too.” Bryan leaned over and kissed her.
“Oh, look we’re going down already.” Dan pointed out.
“Yeah, we are.” Shannen added.
As they neared the bottom, everyone sat up and got ready to get off.
“I wonder what Alex and Maddy are doing now.” Shannen said.
“Probably heading over to the field too.” Bryan replied.
~*~*~*~
“Hey Holly, Shannen, guys.” Alex said when they arrived at the field.
“Hey, are we ready to go in?” Dan asked.
“Yup.” Shannen replied.
It was practically pitch dark and the field was almost full. They found a spot and sat down to wait.
A few minutes later, the fireworks started going and the eight of them just sat there, thinking of all the things that had happened within the past week.
