A Day in the Life
Chapter Three

The next week flew by and before they knew it, Spring Fling had arrived.
It was five minutes of 6 o’clock on Friday and Holly and Shannen were upstairs in their rooms waiting for Alex and Maddy.
It was their tradition. Every night before the dance, Alex and Maddy would leave some clothes at the McMahon’s house and then they’d come over an hour before the dance and help each other pick out clothes and such.
At five past 6, the doorbell rang. A minute later, Alex walked into the room, followed by Maddy.
“Hey, you guys ready?” Alex asked.
“Yup.” Everyone said.
Everyone ran in and out of the two closets, trying on clothes and getting each other’s opinions.
~*~*~
By 6:20, the girls had changed and were doing hair and makeup.
At 6:30, Holly’s alarm went off, signaling it was time to go. Everyone finished up what they were doing. They each approved each other and headed downstairs. Shannen was wearing dark blue stretch jeans with a pink shirt that only had one shoulder strap. Holly was wearing an identical shirt, only hers was black, and dark blue flare jeans with a glitter belt. Alex had dark blue flare jeans and a baby blue spaghetti strap tank top on. Maddy had dark blue stretch jeans with a white tank top with ‘CUTIE’ written in baby blue on it.
“Mom! We’re leaving!” Holly yelled.
“Oh, hold on, girls. Aunt Julie wants a picture.” Her mom told them. Even though, Aunt Julie was really Holly and Shannen’s aunt, she was more like a second mother to the four of them.
“Okay.” They stood together for the picture.
“Thanks, girls.” Aunt Julie said.
“No problem, but we gotta go.” Shannen replied.
“Have fun and be careful!” Their mom yelled after them as they headed off to the school.
~*~*~
They arrived at the school and found the guys already waiting for them. When they walked up to them, Bryan automatically pulled Holly into his arms and hugged her.
“Ready to go in?” Dan asked everyone.
“Yup.” Andy replied as he grabbed Maddy’s hand and headed inside.
Once they were inside, the girls headed to their usual spot, right in front of the DJ booth.
“Wanna dance?” Bryan asked Holly.
“Sure.” She replied as she leaned against him and he slipped his arms around her waist. They began dancing to Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Miss Independent’.
“I really hate when people don’t like to dance.” Holly stated noticing that they were practically the only ones dancing.
“I like dancing.” Bryan told her.
“That’s good.” Holly smiled.
~*~*~
After six fast songs they decided to sit down.
“Whew. I’m beat.” Alex said.
“Having fun?” Bryan asked.
“Lots.” Holly replied.
“You’re a great dancer.” He told her.
“You too.” She said.
At that moment, ‘I Hope You Dance’ by Lee Ann Womack came on.
“I love this song!” Holly exclaimed.
“Me too!” Alex agreed.
“Well, come on. Let’s go dance.” Bryan stood up and led Holly back to their spot. Everyone else followed close behind.
Bryan put his arms around Holly’s waist and Holly put her arms around Bryan’s neck.
“Thanks for asking me to come.” Holly whispered.
“Thanks for saying yes.” He whispered back. Holly just smiled and rested her head on his shoulder.
~*~*~
About four hours later, the last song was played. It was ‘Time of Your Life’ by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, from Dirty Dancing.
“Come on, guys. It’s the last song.” Holly told them.
They all went back to their spot and danced.
When the song ended, they headed outside and walked down the street to Friendly’s.
After the dances, basically everyone went to Friendly’s for ice cream and such.
~*~*~
When they got there, they grabbed a booth in the back near the window. They ordered their food and sat back and waited.
“Hey, um, Alex?” Glen broke the silence.
“Yeah?”
“I was wondering if, um, maybe, would you like to go the carnival tomorrow with me?” He asked.
“I’d love to!” She replied.
“Great! I’ll pick you up at 5?”
“Sure.” She replied.
At that moment, their food arrived and they began eating.
~*~*~
“Ew, what is that, Bryan?” Holly asked.
“It’s a chicken sandwich with mayo, ketchup, and relish.” He replied, “Wanna try it?”
“Uh, sure.” She replied.
He handed her the sandwich and she took a bite.
“Hey! That’s good.” She announced.
“Told you.” He smiled.
~*~*~
“Call me cell when you get home.” Holly told Bryan. Glen had walked Alex home and Andy had walked Maddy home and Dan and Shannen were waiting at the door, so it was just Holly and Bryan outside in the street.
“Alright. You’re parents won’t care?” He asked.
“Nah, they won’t know. I’ll be up in my room, which is on the third floor, and their room is on the first so they won’t hear it.” She told him.
“Okay, well…good night.” He said.
“Yeah, night.” She replied.
They just stood there for a minute.
“So, yeah, I’ll call you.” Bryan broke the silence.
“I’ll be waiting.” She told him.
Bryan leaned forward and kissed her.
“Night.” He said and walked away.
Shannen was waiting at the door.
“Holly! Come on!” She yelled.
“Huh? Oh yeah, I’m coming!” Holly turned and ran to the house.
“Mom!” Shannen yelled as they ran upstairs to their rooms, “We’re home!”
“Okay, girls!” They heard her yell back.
~*~*~
As soon as they got upstairs, Holly turned on the radio so their parents wouldn’t hear them.
“Guess what?” Shannen exclaimed, “Dan kissed me!”
“That’s great!” Holly replied, “Bryan kissed me too!”
“This is so cool!” Shannen said.
At that moment, Holly’s cell phone rang. Well, it didn’t ring but it played Good Charlotte's 'The Anthem' as the ring.
“Hello?” She answered it. “Hey, Bryan.”
At minute later, Shannen’s rang. It played All-American Rejects’ ‘Swing Swing’.
“Hello? She answered. “Hey, Dan.”
~*~*~
“Well, I have to go.” Holly said glancing at her clock on the nightstand and realizing that it was almost midnight. “See you tomorrow. Bye.”
At the same moment, Shannen hung up with Dan too.
“Did Bryan ask you to go to the carnival tomorrow?” Shannen asked.
“Yeah,” Holly answered, “Did Dan?”
“Yup.” She replied as she pulled her leopard print pajamas out of her drawer. “Dan’s coming over tomorrow at 3 to chill.”
“Cool.” Holly replied, “I think I’m gunna head to bed. I’m beat.”
“Me too.” Shannen agreed.
Holly slid the door shut. She grabbed her baby blue silk pajamas and changed quickly. She, then, went into the bathroom and brushed her teeth and washed up. As she left the bathroom, Shannen was going in.
“Night, Shannen.” Holly said.
“Night, Holly.” Shannen replied.
Holly walked back into her room and crawled into bed.
A few minutes later, Shannen left the bathroom and crawled in her bed.
