Jeff slept peacefully on silk black sheets in his room. A warm breeze drifted into the second-story room in his North Carolina home, beckoning him to awaken into the summer night. He slipped open his deep green eyes and slid out of bed towards the large window. He walked out onto the small terrace to see the sun setting on the southern wilderness. He listened to the nightingale sing as he sat on the railing in his boxer shorts. He ran a hand through his shoulder-length rainbow hair. Below him, Jeff heard the door open. He glanced down and noticed his brother Matt had walked outside. "Hey Matt," Jeff called down. A brown and silver head turned and looked up at him.

"Oh Hey Jeff," Matt responded. "You’re awake?"

"Yeah. I decided to grace this world with my wretched presence."

"You’re not wretched, Jeff. You’re just...oh I don’t know," Matt assured him. Matt sighed and went back into the house. Jeff walked into his room and snatched a pair of black baggy cargo pants from the floor. He put them on and opened his door, heading downstairs barefooted and shirtless. Jeff walked into the kitchen shortly after Matt. Matt was sitting at the table reading the newspaper. Jeff walked over to the the empty coffee pot. Jeff made himself a pot of coffee, jumping up onto the counter and making himself comfortable while his coffee brewed.

"Matt, I’m going to go take a walk after I drink my coffee. I need to think a little. I tried writing last night and couldn’t, which usually means that I need to clear my mind and do some thinking." When Matt didn’t respond, Jeff sighed. His coffee had finished brewing so he poured some into his black mug, which was sitting next to him. Matt jumped at the knock on the door. He got up and let the person in. "Hey Gabrielle," Jeff said between mouthfulls of coffee.

"How many times have I told you to call me Gabby, Rainbow Brite." Jeff almost choked on his coffee. Before he could speak, Matt addressed the girl.

"And where have we been little miss?"

"Out and about. I got stuck at my friends house. I went there last night and we had a sleep over. Didn’t I tell you?" she asked.

"No...you didn’t. But I could care less. Edge was worried about you. He thought that maybe you had gotten hurt, or worse...caught by a hunter. You could have at least called," Matt repremanded.

"We don’t have a phone, remember? How can I call when we don’t have a phone? Would you like me to just make one apear out of thin air?" Matt shot her a look. She got her green mug out of the cabinet. She poured herself a cup of coffee. Jeff made a face at her. He poured the remainder of the coffee into his cup, placing the pot in the sink. Gabby headed towards the stairs and sat down, drinking her coffee slowly.

"Which friend was this? Do we know her?" Matt asked.

"Don’t you mean ‘Do we know him?’?" Jeff corrected. Both Matt and Gabby shot him a look. "What? It was an honest question. You can’t honestly tell me you weren’t thinking it yourself Matt," Jeff added. Matt shrugged.

"It better not be a him, or somebody will get their little ass kicked by either me, Edge, or Christian." Even though Matt was younger than Edge and Christian, he was still older than both Gabrielle and Jeff, so he felt responsible for them. "So as I asked before, do we know him/her?"

"You might. Do you remember Calesta, Demetria, and Amber?" Both Matt and Jeff gave her a blank face. "Okay, I guess that is a no. Oh well. That is where I was during daylight hours." Gabby walked back the stairs and headed up.
