"Josh," Kalika whispered. Christian held his hand up to her forehead. She was burning up. Christian was prepared for this, as he had a cold rag in a bucket ready to give her when she awakened. He held it to her head, cooling her off.
"She made it. Oh my God...she made it," Josh stammered. Matt, Jeff, Edge and Gabby all entered the room shortly.
"We heard you call for Josh," Matt offered. They were surprised when they saw Kalika's blue eyes open, searching the room. The group rejoiced.
"Water," Kalika whispered. Jeff and Edge tripped over each other trying to get out the door. When they both came back, each was carrying a glass of water, and they knelt by her bedside. Christian helped her sit up so that she could drink. After several minutes of silence while she drank, Kalika looked around at all the apprehensive faces. "Where am I?" she asked with childish fear.
"You're at Christian's house," Josh told her.
"I want to go home," she said with the same childish tone to her voice.
"You'll go home as soon as you get a little bit stronger, okay?" Christian asked her softly. Kalika nodded. "Now there's a good girl. Go back to bed now, okay Kali?" Again she nodded. Everybody left the room as she snuggled down into the gray plaid flannel sheets. She motioned for Josh to come to her bedside. He walked over, kneeling so that she could whisper into his ear.
"Where's Fate?" she asked. Josh looked around. He reached into a small blue duffel bag filled with his sister's few major belongings: a hair brush, some clothes, her favorite CD, a book, a small green journal and a small brown teddy bear. He snagged the teddy-bear and handed it to Kalika, who pulled it close to her. "Thank you Josh." He smiled as Kalika closed her eyes and slid off into sleep. Josh kissed her forehead and stood, walking to the door. He turned the light off, closing the door as he left her to sleep in silence.
