"I’m done," Dakota remarked. Edge looked at her. "With what?" he asked her, snatching the book out of her hands. "Hey!" she exclaimed. He looked at the picture and his jaw hung open. There was a life-like picture of him sitting in the chair reading. "You have a real talent for this, did you know that?" he asked. She smiled and snatched her book back. "Thank you for the complement," she said. She smiled at him. "Want a drink? I’m thirsty and since I’m getting up, I figured I’d ask you and be polite." He shook his head and pointed at the glass of water by his side. She nodded and went into the kitchen and got a glass of water. She came back in and picked up her sketchbook while lying back down on the couch. She started humming while she sketched. "What are you drawing now?" he asked. She shook her head and started out the window. Matt was kneeling in front of the garage next to his bike and Jeff was kneeling on the other side of it. They were in Dakota’s view so she was sketching them. Edge noticed this and commented. "As long as you are having fun little one." Dakota slipped off and finished her picture in ten minutes. Jeff and Matt and left the bike and were on their way back t the house. Dakota flipped the page and began sketching the setting sun. Christian had not come back yet and Dakota did not notice Matt or Jeff enter the room.
"What’cha doing sweetie?" Matt asked her. Edge shot him a look and Matt closed his mouth. Dakota ignored him. Matt had forgotten that she was mad at him. "Come on, we’re going for a walk," Matt informed her. She looked at him and handed Edge her sketchbook. He looked up at her. LITTLE ONE, IF YOU NEED ME FOR ANYTHING, JUST CALL TO ME. YOU KNOW I’M HERE. Dakota smiled at him and walked over to the closet to grab a jacket. She threw Jeff’s jacket around her shoulders and followed Matt out the door.
"I’m sorry Dakota, I just didn’t know that you meant for the whole night." "How could you betray me? I was afraid, scared. You have no idea what it is like to be inside my head. My mother was murdered by my step-father, who, by the way wants me dead. Do you have nay idea? I am afraid, afraid of you, afraid of Jeff, Edge and Christian, and above all, I am afraid that you will leave me, just like Jared, just like Seth, Mike, and Jon. They left. Everybody and everything that I ever held close to me has left me behind. How do you think that feels? I have every right to believe that you guy will leave me too. I am tortured, A lyric in a great song says, ‘Waking from tormented sleep.’ Well, that’s what happened the other night. when you were gone I awoke from tormented sleep. When I looked around and saw nobody I feared. Do you even know what that’s like?" Matt was looking at his feet the whole time. It was nearing 8:00, but nobody really cared. Matt tried to defend himself. He took her hands in his and looked into Dakota’s blue eyes. "I said I’m sorry. I didn’t know. My mother is dead too. You, edge and Christian, my brother Jeff, and Gangrel are my only family now. I know what you mean by tormented sleep. I am suffering the same thing. I was not being sensitive and open to your feelings. I understand my wrong doings now. I’m sorry." Dakota looked at him, her blue eyes breaking the stare from his chocolate brown ones. It was too hard to stay mad at a face like his. She kissed him on the cheek. "Forgiven," she whispered into his ear, "just try not to do it again or I’ll have to beat you senseless." She smiled at him and he smiled back. "Thank you," he whispered to her. Dakota smiled back as Matt held onto her hand. They walked down to the beach together.
When Dakota and Matt were not back by midnight, Jeff and Edge began to get worried. Christian was not back yet either, but he was with Gangrel so they were not worried. DAKOTA? ARE YOU AND MATT OKAY? YEAH, WE’RE JUST WALKING ON THE BEACH. WE’RE GOING OUT HUNTING IN A FEW MOMENTS, WANNA COME? LET ME ASK JEFF. Edge looked over at Jeff who was glued to the television. Edge tossed a pillow at him. Jeff looked up startled. "Wanna go hunting with your brother and your girlfriend?" Dakota laughed at what Edge said. Matt looked at her. "I’ll tell you in a minute." "She’s not my girlfriend," Jeff remarked with a serious tone in his voice. "Yeah, but you wish you were," Edge shot back at him, laughing. Jeff looked annoyed. "I guess I’ll go with them. Are you going?" "You bet. I want to talk to the little one." With that, they stood at the door waiting for them to return from the beach.
On the way back to the house, Dakota informed Matt of the conversation that Edge had with Jeff. Matt started laughing. They stopped in front of the house. Edge and Matt went to go get three bikes. "I hope that Christian doesn’t mind me borrowing his bike," Matt grumbled. Dakota shrugged and hopped on the back of Edge’s bike. She pulled her helmet on over her head and pulled Jeff’s jacket around her. Jeff shot her a startled look and she shrugged. Edge sat on his bike and sped off towards the city. Jeff started his bike and followed. Matt came in close behind. The bikes stopped in front of a small night-club. "Edge, I don’t want to go clubbing tonight," Dakota whined. "I just want to feed and go to sleep." "Nobody said we were going to go clubbing," Edge said motioning towards a man walking out of the club. "No more alcohol in the blood for me," Dakota moaned. Edge shook his head. He went after the man. Jeff grabbed a man coming out of the club next—door and Matt went after a woman leaving the first club. Dakota timidly found Matt into a back alley and fed on the woman. She wiped the blood from her chin onto her shirt while Matt cleaned up the body. Matt grabbed her hand and led her back to the bikes. Jeff and Edge were waiting for them. Dakota pulled her helmet on before slipping onto the back of Jeff’s bike. She slid her hands around his waist. Jeff smiled at her touch. On the way back home, Edge took a detour through the woods. Matt decreased his speed and followed. Jeff and Dakota followed Matt. Edge stopped when he reached the beach. Matt stopped as did Jeff. Edge lay down and looked up at the stars. Matt and Jeff parked their bikes. Matt lay down on the sand near Edge. Jeff lay down next and Dakota lay next to Jeff putting her head on his stomach. Edge smiled to himself about this. Dakota whispered, "Look," pointing at a shooting star. The boys watched the sky. Christian came up behind them and lay down near his brother. "Have fun?" Edge asked him. He nodded. Jeff looked down at his chest at Dakota. Her eyes were closed. He caressed her cheek and stroked her hair. The last thing Jeff remembered was the lull of the water on the shore.
