Matt walked up the stairs to put Dakota in her bed while Jeff put the bike in the garage. Jeff came in the house shortly after. Gangrel, Edge, and Christian were all deep in sleep when Matt leaned over Dakota’s bed. He placed her gently on the bed and pulled the covers up around her. She moaned and rolled over. She opened her eyes sleepily and whispered to Matt who was on his way out the door. "Don’t leave me," she said. Matt turned and came to lie next to her. She fell asleep and shortly after Matt went into his room. Jeff looked in on Dakota who was sleeping peacefully. He closed the curtains over so that the sun would not awaken her. He went into his room and fell asleep. As the Hardy brothers and Dakota were falling asleep, Gangrel was waking. He knew of the events of the previous day and was not happy about the accident. He went into the library and sat in his large red chair. He pulled a book into his lap and started writing by the light of the sun that came in the cracks of the window above. He did not understand why Dakota feared this room. Only here and the basement would she not go. Nobody knew why, she was just afraid. This left Gangrel deeply perplexed. Did something happen in these rooms that he did not know about? Or was it just memories from her mortal life? Gangrel did not know. He did not imagine that the Hardys’ or the other brothers knew either. He turned and looked out the window as two hawks flew out of their tree. Perhaps they were hunting or maybe just flying because they were birds and they could. They looked great together. "Dakota and Jeff," Gangrel thought to himself. He knew they were destined to be together and he was sure that they had a feeling of that as well. He could not take any chances with them.
Edge stirred in his room and sat up. He looked wildly around the room. He knew there was somebody else in the room. He climbed out of bed. He made a face at the cold floor against his bare feet. He pulled on a pair of pants and walked down the hall. He poked his head into Christian’s room. He was sleeping. He looked in at Matt who was sleeping also. He did the same for Jeff. When he came to Dakota’s room, he was surprised to see her standing on the balcony watching the birds in the tree near her room. He walked up behind her and put a gentle hand on her shoulder. She turned and hugged him. Edge saw that she had been crying, but he did not understand why. He stood there hugging her before she looked up at him. He found himself starring into her blue eyes, entranced. "What’s wrong Cody? Did somebody hurt you?" Edge asked with concern. "He left me. He left me. So many have left me before. You won’t leave me, will you?" she asked with innocence and purity unknown in the house before she came. "Who has left you? I won’t leave you, I promise. Matt won’t, Christian won’t, Sire won’t, and Jeff won’t. We’ll always be here. We’ll never leave you. We love you to much to leave you," Edge replied, soothing her. He stroked her hair and she buried herself in his hair. "Matt left me. He promised me at dawn that he would stay with me, but I awoke from a nightmare and he was gone. Friends have left me, my mortal father left me, and my mortal stepfather wants me dead...I have so much against me. I am so scared," Dakota whispered to him. Edge wrapped his arms around her and hugged her close. Dakota started crying and Edge sat down with her, rocking her on the balcony until she fell back asleep. He was not happy about this. Gangrel would find out about her being hunted and Matt would defiantly hear of leaving her. Edge was never one to take things like this. Dakota was his sister and nobody harmed her. Once during the course of his thoughts, Dakota woke up crying again. She had received another nightmare and this time there was somebody there to help her fall back asleep, to promise her that nobody would hurt her. Edge would go after Matt first, and then Jared.
Dakota finally awoke at 3:00 that afternoon. She thanked Edge for staying with her and she dismissed him. Edge went to inform Gangrel of Jared. When he was done with Gangrel, he would confront Matt about the sin he had committed. Dakota slipped a fleece on over her head and knocked on Jeff’s door. "Come in," he called over the music. He was listening to Pearl Jam, which didn’t surprise her. He was also sitting up in his bed scribbling furiously on a piece of paper. She calmly walked over to his closet. "I need a new outfit, so I’m borrowing something out of yours," she informed him. "Don’t you ask first little miss ‘I can do whatever I feel like’?" he asked. She turned and walked over to his bed. She leaned close to his face. "Do I really have to?" "No, you know I don’t care. If you did this to anyone else they might though. I was just making a point," he retorted. She kissed him. "There, that’s question enough," she said walking towards the closet again. She rummaged through Jeff’s messy closet. "You’re worse than Edge," she said while starting to clean up his mess. She tossed a black tee shirt onto the bed followed by a pair of black cargo pants. "Don’t you think my pants might be a little to big for you?" he asked. "That’s the point. I’m gonna wear a belt with it too," she replied. Jeff made a face. "What’s the matter? Jealous that I’m wearing your own clothes?" "No, but if you’re wearing them then I can’t," Jeff remarked. "So maybe you’ll just have to wear them at the same time as me," Dakota returned, smiling. Jeff looked up from his paper. "Would you stop teasing me? It’s just not fair," he whined. "Who says I’m teasing?" Dakota said walking towards him. She grabbed his hand and pulled him to his feet. "If we get caught?" Jeff asked. "Who cares," she replied. Jeff was about to pull her into a long, drawn out tongue lock when Christian popped his head in. Dakota sighed and went to pick up her new outfit. "Do you have a sixth sense or something?" Jeff asked. Christian shook his head and told them that Gangrel wanted them downstairs. They nodded and said they’d be right down. Christian turned and left. Dakota fell into Jeff’s arms again. "To be continued," Dakota said teasing him with a twist of her hips. "You’re so not fair. It’s like the never-ending story." She shrugged and walked out the door and down the stairs. Jeff followed.
The small meeting was about the party that night. Dakota had forgotten all about it. He told them to have fun, but also to protect each other and themselves. The sun was setting and the group headed to their respective rooms to get ready. When Dakota knocked on Edge’s door, he smiled at her. She asked him to evaluate how she looked. He said she would shame the nymphs if they were still around. She smiled and headed out the door to put on her makeup. They went out to the bikes and departed for the party.
When they arrived, Dakota introduced her boys to Mike. She looked around and saw slayers and hunters everywhere. "Mike, is it safe for me to be here?" she whispered to him. He nodded and she noticed her friends from the other night in the room. She went off to see them leaving the five boys alone. They talked about life and soon Edge, Christian, Matt and Jeff went to get Dakota. They once again greeted the four girls and made friends. One of Dakota’s favorite songs came on and she hurried out to the dance floor. She started dancing and soon her friends joined her. Everybody was dancing and had a good time. Dakota looked at Jeff informing of the Hunger. He told her AFTER THE PARTY LOVE. She nodded and began dancing again. When it came time for the costume contest, she and the boys won best group. Jenny got best single for her costume of a gypsy dancer. As the party came to close and the last song came on, Matt asked Dakota to dance. She was about to reply when Edge came over and intervened. "She’s already spoken for," he said in a calm cool voice. Matt backed off and let them dance. Matt walked back over to Jeff and Christian in a foul mood. After the dance, they said their good-byes and left the party.
For feeding, the group decided to hunt near each other, as Edge took Dakota under his wing for the night as he was oldest andthe one who could protect her best. He knew a hunter was following them. Edge led him to a dark alley and took him. He offered to Dakota who drank timidly and slowly. Edge finished and they rejoined the boys. The got on their bikes and headed home. Edge led Dakota up to bed while everybody else went to their rooms. Dakota had a headache and was nauseous. Edge knew that the hunter was drunk when she drank, so it was just the alcohol’s effect on her body. "Edge, don’t leave me." "I’ll be right back, I promise. I just have to take care of some business." With that, he left the room and headed down the hall to Matt’s room. "Hello sire," Dakota said when Gangrel walked into her room. "Did you have fun my child?" he asked her. She nodded and closed her eyes. "Thank you sire for letting me go." Those were her last words before she drifted to sleep. While Gangrel watched over his childe, Edge was exchanging words with Matt.
