Edge ran up the stairs and knocked on the door of the guest room. "Come in," came the rough male voice. "Sebastian, I have a question for you. How do you sire a child?" After a few moments of talking, Sebastian remarked, "But Edge, only an experienced Kindred may do that, if you mess it up, the childe will die." "Well then can you embrace some one?" "Me? I could, but who?" "Christian’s girlfriend, Melissa. He doesn’t want her to leave him, and he doesn’t want her to die, ever." Sebastian thought for a moment. "Is the girl strong? Will she survive it?" Edge nodded. Sebastian continued, "Well then, go ask her if she is willing to take on the responsibilities of being an immortal. Make sure that she will be able to handle the change." Edge nodded and rose, heading to Melissa’s room. He knocked on the door and went in. Christian was sitting on the bed, talking to her. It was something funny apparently because the two were laughing. "Melissa, may I have a word with you?" Melissa nodded. Christian rose to get up, but Edge motioned for him to sit and listen. "Christian, have you spoken to her about it?" Christian nodded. Edge turned and faced Melissa. "Well, Melissa, do you want it?" Melissa nodded. "Do you understand what it will do to you, what it will make you, what you will become?" She nodded again. "Then tell me child, what will you become, what do you know of us?" "I’ll become an orphan, and live here with you." Edge shook his head. "I thought you said you told her." "I tried to brother, but she didn’t believe me." Edge shook his head. He turned and bared his fangs at her, Christian doing the same. Melissa looked at them in fear. "Now you know what we are, and now you know what you will become," Edge told her. "Will it hurt?" "Oh no child, it will not. You will not even feel it." Melissa nodded. "Tomorrow night, you will be one of us. Now tell me child, do you want it?" Melissa could not understand why, but she spoke the words, "Yes, I do. I want to be like you, like Christian, and like the others. I want to walk in darkness, I want to feed off of other living things and feel their warm blood trickle down my throat. I want to live forever and never grow old. I want to be with Christian for the rest of my life. I want to be as swift as Matt, as wise as you, as humorous as Jeff, and I want to be as strong as Dakota." Edge nodded. "Good child, you understand." He rose and walked out of the room. He went back to see Sebastian. "She is ready, she can handle it." "Good. Tomorrow night then, I leave in two days, and it must be done." Edge nodded and went back to his room, lying down, and went back to sleep.
Jeff stood, waiting for the train back home. He didn’t know why he was going back, he had just left. He had left to get away, to leave his problems behind and start over in a new city. Something was pulling him back, something, unexplainable. He felt compelled to go home, to fix what he did wrong. The train pulled up in front of the station. Jeff boarded the train and once again took a seat by the window. The conductor looked at him, and asked him, "Weren’t you just on this train heading in the other direction?" "Huh? Oh yeah, I was." "So what made you come back?" "A girl, my love, and just plain old insanity." "I know what you mean, I did something like that when I was young too." "Yeah, I’m sure everyone has." The conductor walked off, taking everyone’s tickets. The train pulled off, and before Jeff knew it, he was back at the station in his hometown. ‘Well,’ Jeff thought, "here I am, on my way back home, back to the memories and pain.’
Christian looked at Melissa. "I want you to be as comfortable as possible when this happens." Melissa nodded. "Are you sure you want to go through with this?" She nodded again. Christian shrugged. Sebastian knocked on the door and stepped in. Melissa grabbed Christians hand as he moved her hair away from her neck. Sebastian knelt next to her on the bed and bent for her neck as Christian pulled her into a long, passionate kiss. Sebastian drew almost all of Melissa’s blood from her, Christian could feel it. Christian pulled away from the kiss as Sebastian nodded to him. Sebastian slit his wrist and held it to Melissa’s mouth, who sucked on it like a baby to a bottle. Sebastian pulled his wrist away once she had sufficient blood to turn her. Melissa ran her hand through Christian’s hair and then lay back on the bed, feeling warm, sedated. She fell asleep and Christian lay next to her as Sebastian left the room. He came in periodically during the day to check on her. That night was going to be difficult, teaching her to hunt.
Dakota looked at Edge with a deep hunger. He nodded his head and tossed his black shiny trench-coat to her. She pulled it on and she grabbed his black fuzzy cowboy hat. She was wearing a pair of black leather pants, a tight, three-quarter length sleeve, black shirt and a loose pair of black boots. Edge was dressed similar, all in black, but his clothes were not as tight as hers. Matt trudged down the stairs and joined them, wearing a pair of black baggy jeans and a black tank-top which showed off his muscular arms. He called up to Christian, who was followed by a sleepy Melissa. The two were dressed completely different. Christian was dressed similar to the crew, but Melissa was wearing a pair of blue flares, and a white tank-top. She didn’t fit in. Matt tossed her a black tee-shirt to put on and she yanked it on over her head, disrupting her dark brown curls. She followed the crew out the door and to the garage, where the men proceeded to get out the bikes. It was decided that Melissa would ride with Christian who was going to the south-side of town to feed, where all the businesses were. Dakota, Edge and Matt were going to their usual club zone. Dakota wrapped her arms around Edge’s waist tightly as the bike zoomed off towards the lights of the city, followed by Melissa, Matt and Christian.
The last thing the man felt was the impact of Christians fist on the back of his skull. Christian showed Melissa where to bite, how to drink, and how to close the wound. He shared with her, and after the blood, her face glowed a light pink color and she felt dizzy, much like Dakota did on her first kill. Christian disposed of the body and then picked Melissa up and carried her to the bike. Dakota picked off a teenage girl, Matt got a teen male punk, and Edge decided to feed off of a single woman. The crew disposed of the three bodies and headed back to the bikes, meeting up with Christian and Melissa on the way home. The crew watched movies, but the girls fell asleep again. The boys put them to bed and went to their own rooms, with the exception of Christian, who stayed up the whole night watching over Melissa.
