Dakota shrugged and pulled her clothes on. She stepped outside of her room and saw Jeff coming down the hall. She went down the stairs and calmly ignored him. She met Edge in the kitchen and the two sat at the kitchen table drinking tea and coffee. Jeff looked at Dakota and closed his eyes. He wanted to reach out and grab her, but he knew that he could not. He had to apologize to her, but how?
Dakota and Edge soon finished their drinks. "Dakota, do you want to go riding? I can teach you how, it’s not really that hard." "Sure, let me go tell Christian we’re going." Edge nodded and Dakota left to go upstairs. She could feel Jeff looking at her, but she continued up the stairs anyway. Dakota popped her head in Christian’s door. "Chris? Are you in here?" When Dakota got no response, she walked in and looked around. She discovered a note. It read:
‘Lissy, I went out to return the movie. I’ll be back in a few minutes. Love forever and always, Christian’. Dakota looked at the note that lay in her hands. She stared at it blankly and finally put it down. ‘Lissy,’ Dakota thought, ‘who is Lissy?’ ‘Love forever and always, Christian? He usually only writes that to me.’ Dakota lifted her head slowly. She could feel a presence but she could not pinpoint where it was coming from. She looked over to the door and saw Edge standing there looking at her. He came in as Dakota stood to look out the window. He wrapped one arm around her waist and wrapped the other around her shoulders pulling her close to him. "What’s wrong little one?" Edge asked her. "Hmm? Nothing," she replied, still deep in thought. "Well, if you say so, but I know that something is wrong. If you don’t want to tell me then you don’t have to, I respect that. But if I know you as well as I think I do then you’ll tell me by the end of the night." Dakota smiled, "Maybe you do know me as well as you think you do. Let’s go now okay?" Edge nodded his head and dragged her outside.
Dakota pulled her helmet on over her head and glanced over at Edge. She sat on her bike as he started his. He revved the engine and instructed her to follow. She amazingly knew what she was doing. She followed him and the two raced off towards the city.
When Dakota and Edge entered the club, the music was deafening. Dakota could tell she hadn’t been here in a long time. Edge grabbed her hand and led her through the crowd to the middle of the dance floor. They had just fed and were both were warm from the blood. Dakota’s belly felt heavy as it always did after feeding, but she was content and so was Edge. Dakota and Edge were enjoying themselves when Dakota thought she saw Christian and some girl on the other side of the dance floor. Dakota looked harder and realized that it was Christian. He bent over and kissed the other girl. ‘That must be Lissy,’ Dakota thought to herself. She told Edge that she needed a drink and she made her way over to the bar. She noticed Mike sitting at the bar and sat next to him. "Hey you, guess who," she whispered into his ear. "How could I forget," he said, pulling her hands off of his eyes. He rose and hugged her, kissing her softly on the lips. "How have you been dear?" he asked her. "As well as can be considering I am what I am." "Very funny," he said. "What’cha drinking?" she asked. "Just a wee bit of Guinness lass," he replied in an Irish tone. Dakota took the glass from in front of him and drank from it. Mike looked at her in shock. "Alcohol? You? Oh my God Cody. What happened to you?" "Nothing, just wanted some." Mike nodded his head and ordered another, having noticed that Dakota finished his. Dakota ordered a bottle of water for herself and departed from Mike. She made her way back to Edge who looked at her. "Alcohol little one?" She nodded. Edge shook his head and Dakota took a sip of water. "Isn’t that what started your troubles dear?" Dakota looked at him with fear in her eyes. "Wasn’t Jeff drunk when he hit you?" Edge instantly realized what he had said. Dakota looked at him with tears in her eyes. "You too huh?" she choked out. She turned and ran for the door. "Dakota!" Edge called out after her, but it was too late, for she was gone. He shook his head and raced after her.
Dakota raced through the back alleyways with Edge in pursuit. He kept yelling for her, but she ignored him. She ran towards the bikes. She made a turn through a final alleyway to lose Edge. A foot appeared in front of her and she couldn’t stop. She tripped over it and slammed into the ground, sliding along the concrete. Edge raced past the alleyway, not having seen her turn for the night was foggy. She looked up and saw what had tripped her. It was Jared. "Ah, the slut goes down. I see we are sleeping with a new guy tonight," he said. He was obviously talking about Edge. Dakota screamed. She knew that Edge had to have heard her. She struggled under Jared’s foot. She saw Jared raise a knife high above his head. Dakota closed her eyes, knowing what was coming next. The last thought in her mind was of Jeff.
Dakota could not remember what happened next. Whatever had happened, she did not know, for Edge would not tell her. She opened her eyes and saw Edge standing there with a small cut above his left eye. "Little one, are you okay?" he asked. Dakota did not respond. She stared at him blankly. He crouched down in front of her. "Little one, are you okay? Answer me," he commanded her. Instead of an answer, Dakota leaped forward into his arms and cried. The last thing she remembered hearing was Edge’s voice telling her that everything was going to be okay and the he was here. Dakota stopped crying after she had fallen asleep. Edge called out BROTHER, COME HERE. WHERE ARE YOU? IN THE CITY, BUT DON’T BRING YOUR BIKE, WALK HERE. I CAN’T, I’M KIND OF BUSY AT THE MOMENT. WITH WHAT? MY FRIEND IS OVER AND WE ARE WATCHING A MOVIE. MATT, ANSWER ME. YEAH EDGE? WHAT’S UP? ARE YOU BUSY AS OF THE MOMENT? NO, WHY? COME INTO THE CITY IN THE BACK ALLEY NEAR THE CLUB WHERE WE SAW MORTAL ATTRACTIONS. DAKOTA AND I NEED YOUR HELP. I’M ON MY WAY. MATT, DON’T BRING YOUR BIKE. WHY NOT? YOU’LL SEE WHEN YOU GET HERE.
