"This place looks so expensive though."
"Aw, come on, one night of luxury. We've got enough money…" She carefully avoided how they attained all the money as she opened the door and waited for Matt before bounding excitedly into the hotel.
Beside their inconspicuous car pulled up a loud Harley, black with blue flames. The rider took of the dark blue helmet and shook the sweat off her spiked red hair. Turning her head, she watched the couple enter the hotel, and smiled to herself. A few minutes later, she entered the hotel and settled herself at a barstool, ordering a Blackberry Merlot, biding her time until something might possibly happen to catch her attention.
Melissa ran excitedly into to huge room, leaping onto the king size bed in the far corner. Matt put the few bags then had down in the doorway, and rolled his eyes as she bounced up and down like a child, almost squealing with simple joy.
"Melissa, stop it!" He chided her laughingly, standing at the foot of the bed. She stopped and knelt down in front of him, looking somewhat suggestively into his eyes.
"I stopped, see? Now what was that worth?" He sighed, and ran a finger along her jaw.
"Room service?" she giggled wildly and fell back on the bed with a sigh.
"Get strawberries." Melissa mused, staring up at the ceiling. "And some champagne, so we can celebrate." Climbing on the bed beside her, Matt questioned her.
"Celebrate what?" She shrugged, turning over to face him.
"Independence. " He sighed. When she got like this, she needed his blood. It was the only indicator now. The more simple and easy-going she got, the more needy she really was.
"Melissa…you okay." Suddenly pouting, she shook her head.
"No. I want strawberries." Reaching out for her, Matt pulled her close, stroking her back lightly.
"Okay, we'll get whatever you want…but…" He heard her sniffle quietly.
"I know…Matt?" He nodded at her. "When can I be like you?" An uncomfortable silence drifted between them for much too long. "Matt?" She inquired again in a small voice.
"I'm not answering that Melissa." He told her sternly. "I never want to make you this." Melissa cuddled up closer to him, intertwining one of her hands with his.
"Its okay Matt. I can wait forever." Matt tired his best to stifle the bitter laugh that rose in his throat. It was just the opposite.
"Are you ready?" He asked her just as he was about to rip open the flesh of his wrist and give her what she needed. Much to his surprise, she pushed him away and sat up, shaking her head.
"I don't want it. I don't need it Matt…"
"You do…" He insisted, drawing closer, "Melissa, you know you need it…we talked about this." Clenching her jaw firmly, Melissa shook her head again, standing up on the other side of the bed. "Don't do this Melissa, don't pull this shit now. It's been so good."
"I won't take anything until you make me what you are! If I can't be like you then I don’t want to pretend I am! How much can it take, Matt? Just do it! Don't put this off any longer…" Still sitting on the bed, Matt stared at her, feeling familiar regret seep into his brain.
"I can't…you don’t know what your ask - "
"I do!" She screamed at him, her face contorting in rage. "I've seen you, I know what you are, and I want to be the same!"
"You want to be a fucking vampire? You want to kill people just because they exist? You want to never go out - "
"Yes! I want all those things, and I want more. I want you, forever." She shielded her eyes from him as rageful tears began to overflow.
"I…I can't…" He told her brokenly, as her eyes flashed at him, half insane, and half determined.
"Then I'll find someone who will."
