No one had come by the apartment building and Melissa sat in the entrance. She couldn’t go in, because Matt might come for her. He would come for her, she knew. She needed him. She had never needed anyone in her life, but if she didn't find had, she would die. It was something she knew, and it was an attraction she was useless to fight against because it went deeper than either of them could imagine.
It wasn’t until the sun had risen that Melissa decided to go back to her small apartment. Everything she knew about vampires from myths and movies told her that, if Matt was indeed a vampire, he wouldn’t come for her in the day. But that much was still clear in her mind. He would come for her.
Opening the door to her apartment, she stopped in her hall, looking in the mirror. She lifted her red hair out of the way and saw the marks that he had left. The flesh around was tender and bruised from the intensity of his immortal kiss - but surely the fact that he hadn't killed her meant he would be back. Curling up on the couch, Melissa hoped it was soon. Drawing her knees up to her chest, she resolved to find him if he didn't come by midnight.
Matt tried tp sleep in the small, tacky room, but he was worried. He had never thought about what would happen if he didn’t finish off a mortal. He could feel desperation and longing from her. How could he have been so careless? He knew to always kill the mortal he had been feeding on, no matter what. Even Gangrel had told him that much. And now she knew about him, and was pining away. Matt didn't understand what it was like to have power over someone. Sitting up, he decided he had to finish her off before something could happen, if it hadn't already.
The need for Matt grew stronger as the day wore on, and Melissa found her self rocking back and forth, head cradled in her hands, screaming out with fear occasionally. No one knocked on her door, no one bothered to check. People screamed all the time in the building, and the crashing of all sorts of objects was commonplace. So she sat and as he screaming and panic grew in frequency, so did her need until it was unbearable. She did the only thing possible to relieve her need. Melissa bolted from the building and ran off to find Matt, following the direction she remembered his car travelling off in.
Matt drove along the road, carefully searching for the apartment building where Melissa lived. When he felt her presence draw nearer, he scanned the approaching horizon. no buildings. Maybe it was another he was sensing, he thought briefly. The only other people he shared bonds with where his brother, Jeff, Gabrielle, Edge and Christian, as they all had the same maker. But this was definitely Melissa, and her presence grew stronger. Matt shuddered as he past a heap of fresh roadkill at the side of the road. And the presence was stronger than before, causing him to back up and take a second took. The black heap moved, inhaling. Matt knew it was Melissa.
