She spent the entire day roaming through antique stores and thrift shops. She happened upon a new vintage clothing shop that had just opened. "Second Hand Jane" it was called. She entered the store and browsed through the 1930’s dresses. She found a cute little swing dress, blue with yellow daisies. She tried it on and it fit perfectly. It was a little more revealing than what she would usually wear. The neckline rested just above her breasts, revealing a touch of cleavage. The waistline gathered just below her breasts as if underlining their presence. She twirled around in the mirror, admiring her reflection.
"Well," she said, thinking about the party, "I guess I have a reason to buy a new dress now." She changed back in her regular clothes, took the dress to the cashier, paid and left.
As she stepped out of the store, she realized it was growing dark. She also noticed her growling stomach. She headed to her car and turned around in the nearest parking lot. As she headed out of town, she went through the drive through of her favorite fast food joint, and began her 45-minute drive home. The sun set behind her, a glowing ball on the horizon. Before her, the moon rose, cupping the stars in its bowl shaped arch.
The lights of the City dimmed behind her and soon the quiet and peace of the country invaded her soul once again. She hummed along to the radio. Some out of date country song played to the rhythm of the road. Looking down to take a sip of her cola, she almost missed the approaching light in her rearview mirror. The light was almost to her bumper before she noticed it. Then it suddenly veered around her and a motorcycle pulled along side of her. She looked over and was surprised to see the stranger from yesterday. Again, those soul-piercing eyes locked with hers for what seemed an eternity. She flashed back to reality as he pulled away and passed her, disappearing into night.
"Hmmm, maybe he’s going to be around more often," she said as a shiver coursed through her body.
