Back on Dani’s street, the black Camero skidded to a stop. Edge emerged from the drivers seat, then Christian from the other side. Matt waited on her front steps.

"Sorry man, we couldn’t find them."

"Don’t you think I know that?" Matt snapped. He pouted for a minute, then said, "I don’t know how he’s done it, but he’s blocked our connection. He’s also taken Dani back."

"Hey man, you said this would be it. That we’d be complete by now." Taker said.

"Why didn’t you finish her transformation when you had the chance?" Questioned Jericho.

Matt slowly turned to him. "You doubt me. We can’t have that." He then made easy work of killing the weaker men.

Matt continued his thoughtful silence. Edge and Christian looked at one another and back to Matt. Edge was the first to speak, "Matt, what about the place he claimed her? Perhaps he took her there."

Matt smiled deviously, "Edge my boy, you are brilliant! Of course! The Barn Burner party. That’s where he first approached her. I bet he’s taken her there. Let’s go boys."

Dani shivered in the hay. They lay together in the loft of the barn. It seemed so old and open now without the lights and dance floors and bar. The hay bales remained, and several had been pulled apart by stray animals looking for warmth in the night. Dani and Jeff sought much the same thing. After leaving the pond, Jeff pushed his bike up the road to the barn and Dani followed behind. Their hair and clothes dripped with water, forming small puddles at their feet as they stood in the doorway of the barn.

"What do we do?" Dani asked.

"I’m sure they will be here soon enough. Somehow, my anger and hatred caused the mental link to be broken, or at least blocked. So, I don’t think they know where we are. But they aren’t stupid, they will figure it out." Jeff hid his bike in the corner of the barn, behind some bales of hay. He surveyed the barn and decided they would be safest in the hayloft. They could hide there and hopefully not be found. Dani climbed the ladder awkwardly before Jeff. The boots she wore were filled with water, and made it difficult to move. "I’m taking these things off as soon as I get up there."

Jeff smiled as he watched her climb in front of him. He again wished the circumstances were different. She looked way too hot in that outfit. Dani turned when she reached the top and saw Jeff smiling. "What are you grinning at? I thought we were in danger."

Jeff chuckled, "I was just thinking about how great you look in that catsuit. I wish our timing wasn’t so awful."

Dani blushed, then giggled. "Well, if they don’t know for sure where we are, we have some time don’t we?"

"What are you saying?" Jeff asked sheepishly.

"Just that these wet clothes are only going to make us cold. It wouldn’t hurt to be rid of them and find another way to keep warm." Dani winked.

Jeff had reached the top of the ladder by then and took Dani in his arms. "Are you sure? You’ve been through so much already tonight…"

"But that wasn’t what I wanted. I want you. I want you now, here."

"I love you Dani. I want you to know that. If nothing comes out the way we hope in this, always remember, I love you."

"I love you too, Jeff." Her words were lost as he kissed her hard and deep. Soon their clothes lay scattered on the floor of the hayloft and Jeff and Dani lay in one another’s arms, spent of all energy, but tingling with satisfaction.
