"CHRISTIAN!" He heard a familiar voice callout. A dark figure hovered over him and he screamed as a lantern was raised casting eerie light on the tall figure. "Christian calm down!" When the person spoke he realized it was Adam. And almost sobbed with relief. "Man, what's wrong with you?" Adam knelt down to help Christian untangle his foot and help him up. "Why did you take off like that?"
"I heard..saw..I..."
"Man you have seen one too many cheesy horror movies. Come on Jeff and Matt are probably waiting for us, if I can even find where we are after that mad dash of yours." Adam got them back onto the trail through the North Carolina woods easily enough and they searched for the clearing they were told to go to.
"It would have been easier if we could have just come down here WITH them." A long plume of smoke rose into the night sky above the trees not far ahead of them. Christian got a horrified look and Adam rolled his eyes.
Dragging Christian with him. As they broke through the trees Jeff and Matt came into view sitting around a fire.
"HEY!" They called seeing their friends finally arrived. "What took you so long?" Jeff questioned.
"Scaredy cat here ran off." Christian sat down silently looking embarrassed.
"SO what are we out here for anyway," Christian mumbled. Jeff pulled his hair down and orange and black cascaded around his face.
"Halloween tradition, woods, night, scary stories, you know the whole bit."
"We don't have that tradition in Canada so I think me and Adam will be going now." He started to stand up but Matt grabbed his arm.
"Well, it'll be a new surprise for us," Adam said smiling them looked at Christian warningly.
"I'll go get some more firewood before we start," Matt said picking up his flash light and walking off.
"Be careful," Jeff called absently. The three sat by the fire chatting and Christian becoming more relaxed when a blood curdling scream split the air. Christian subconsciously scooted closer to Adam for protection as Jeff froze not moving. They all knew it was Matt's voice, and after what seemed like an eternity Jeff slowly mechanically got to his feet.
His voice came out as barely a whisper as he said, "I better go check on Matt."
"NO!" Christian screamed jumping up and grabbing onto Jeff's arm. It's dangerous!" Jeff looked into Christian's eyes.
"I have to, he's my brother." He slipped off into the woods leaving Christian staring in shock and Adam starting to wonder about the safety of the woods at night after all.
After only moments another scream split the night which was quickly cut off engulfing Adam and Christian in silence. Adam picked up the lantern he had been carry and Christian jumped once again to his feet.
"Don't leave me!"
"Well, come on then," Adam was SURE Matt and Jeff were playing some Halloween prank on them as he drug Christian into the darkness of the forest. They walked through the darkness the as the lantern cast eerie shadows across the trees. Christian looked around swearing there was something dark red splattered on the trees and ground but was afraid to tell Adam. Suddenly Adam's foot scraped against something and he pointed the lantern closer to the ground as he backed up.
As the light fell to the ground they saw black and orange hair fanned out, the orange slowly becoming a deep red color from the pool of blood it was soaking in. Adam lifted the lantern slightly to see Matt and Jeff, their whole bodies gashed and bleeding, their eyes and mouths open giving them a permanent terrified expression with blood drizzled down their faces.
"Adam," Christian barely choked out starting to drag him backwards when he heard a thud at his feet. He looked down as the lantern dropped landing perfectly upright. Adams face started up at him horror masked across it, his blond hair soaking up the deep red blood. He looked as Adam's body had fallen against a tree and stayed there propped like he was taking a rest, only without a head. Christian screamed only to have it quickly cut off by a tight cord cutting across is throat choking him. He clawed at it trying to break free.
"Give up Christian, you wont beat me," the voice sounded vaguely familiar though he couldn't place it. Then a second voice joined in, "Good work Raven. You have proven yourself quite worthy."
"Thank you Gangrel." Christian gave up, his breath slowly leaving him and his head hung forward against the cord. His head fell to the ground, eyes closed looking peaceful in the massacre.
