Gabrielle sat at the noisy bar in Cardiff, thinking about leaving. There was no one she knew here, and the brit-pop grated on her nerves. Rising off the high stool to leave, she let her eyes sweep once more around the room, until they settled on a pair of pale blue ones she knew she had looked into before, under much different circumstances. Wracking her brain for a moment, Gabrielle thought instantly of death. Those eyes meant death.

Stepping forward, Kael looked at Gabrielle's golden eyes that seemed fixed on his. At a loss for reactions, he continued to meander towards her, intent on being peaceful. He knew that in her mind, she didn't know him, not yet, but would in a second. Remembrance flickered in her eyes, and they became fiery, almost yellowish. Kael wasn't sure if this was in anger, or happiness, but he didn't want to chance anger. Stopping in his tracks, she did the same and they both stared. It was Kael who broke the silence.

"Gabrielle…" He said her name warily, remembering the last time it had rolled off his tongue, in anger at Edge. Everything he said before coming to Cardiff had been anger at Edge. Gabrielle remained still and silent, as if afraid to respond. "Gabrielle, its me…Kael.." He moved closer, taking a pale cold hand in his, astonished at its lack of heat. Shaking her head, clearing it, she finally acknowledged him verbally.

"Kael…why are you…" She trailed off, lost for words again. What was there to say to Kael, the man who had fuelled Edge's evil fire so many years ago, the man who had for some reason been hell-bent on saving her mind from Edge's evil. There was nothing that would make sense. They both felt it. the bond that cut deeper than any bond mortals could share. Not a bond of blood, like Gabrielle's with the brothers, but a bond of the psyche, of the mind. He had been in her head once. He was there again, not as confusing, but still reading her thoughts and emotions. She was indecisive. She didn’t know how to treat him. Something in her screamed of the bond, but yet another part made her want to turn around and away, and walk out on him. But she didn't. Gabrielle was propelled forward by an unknown emotion, a strange force, and found herself in his arms, pressing her head into his shoulder. Kael was surprised by this odd act of sudden affection, but felt compelled to embrace her tightly and warmly, trying to heat the body that shouldn't have been so cold. He knew her heart would always belong to Edge, but for one night, her body could belong to him.
