She woke up, panting, sweating, and trying to regain her breath as she though about what she had just dreamt. Was it just a dream? Or her subconscious trying to tell her what was going to happen in the future?
Kendall walked to the main room, finding Raven waiting for her. His hair fell in his face as he raised it, glancing her way. "You couldn’t sleep?"
Kendall shook her head, sitting in the chair where her crumpled jacket lay.
"I was having bad dreams. About death…"
He cleared his throat, scratching at his stubbly beard. "About our destruction?" he asked. She nodded and he continued. "Well that’s one thing I can promise will not happen. I would sacrifice my own soul before I would let them take any of my children. That I can promise." She looked over at him, trying to find the reason behind him. Day in-Day out she would find Raven sitting in his chair, watching the gate. Rarely, if ever sleeping. He had told them that it was his duty, as their creator to protect them any way he could. Even going so far as to follow the newest children on their missions to feed, to make sure they were all right, and would not be caught.
Kendall did not remember he other life, her other family. Raven and her clan was all she knew and all she wanted to know. She was one of the oldest children there, and found it hard to follow in Ravens steps, but always loved trying. Trying to kill Gabrielle had gone bad, and Raven had understood. All she knew is that, next time; it would have to be different. Someone would have to die.
Raven and Kendall stood across the street from the home where Edge, Christian and Gabrielle lived, hidden by the darkness that always seemed to illuminate her creator. Raven had told her that he was going to explain to her as much as he could, as much as he was able to.
"I come here to think sometimes" Raven told her, slowly pacing back and forth, dragging his boots behind him. "I watch their daily lives…see what they do, where they go."
Kendall didn’t understand what he was telling her, but only watched as he continued. "I like to study my opponents. To see if they’d be a match for me, if the time ever came that we would have to go to war."
The house doors opened and Edge slowly emerged, walking down the front steps. Raven came up behind Kendall, who was watching him cautiously. "He’s going to the Pit." Raven whispered in her ear. "He goes there on Friday nights to drown himself in cheap beer and feeds on dope heads." Raven started walking away, waiting for Kendall to catch up…to see what Edges world is all about. Too tell her of a world she didn’t know.
Edge walked out to the driveway, grabbing his helmet off the seat, turning before putting it on. A feeling had come over him that he hadn’t felt in years. Of fear, Death, Rot, and darkness all combined. He looked out to the other end of the road, taking a few steps in that direction, looking out into the night. There was nothing there that he could pick out as being different in any way. He headed back to his motorcycle, reluctantly getting on. Whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t something he wanted to have come back into his life once again. He turned on his engine, skidding down the road as Raven came out of the shadows, watching Edge leave. "He could feel my presence," Raven softly muttered, feeling stronger than ever. "I’ll only be a matter of time before he remembers it all, and why I’m here…" He turned to face Kendall, grabbing her hand, leading her down the road. "Let’s go," he whispered. "There’s one more place I want to show you."
She pulled back, out of his grasp, looking back to the house. "But if Edge is gone, then why don’t we just go inside. We can kill both Christian and Gabrielle before he comes back."
Raven chuckled, pleased with her eagerness. "Patience Spider. They will get what’s coming to them…but for now, come with me." He held out his hand again, smiling for the first time that day, when she took it.
Raven stepped out onto the dim lighted docks, grasping his hands tightly on the rail, looking out into the cold ocean. "This is where it all started…" he gritted through his teeth. "My hatred for them."
Kendall stepped up behind him, not getting too close, seeing the rage starting to overcome him. She kept her distance as Raven continued his story.
His jaw clenched, angry at the words that were coming out. Of the memories all starting up again. "It was almost 200 years ago. There was a war between both sides. Between mine and the ones of the others. They had captured us during our sleep, coming into our home, slaughtering many innocents. That was when Edge had his first kill of our kind." He turned to face Kendall, sitting on a crate near her. "He killed my younger brother Mortious…taking his life right in front of me. When I think of them…any of them, that is the first thing I remember, the death." The boat horns sounded off in the distance, steam rising off the hot engines as he finished his story. "The next night, the few of us that were left, found their campground, slaughtering all that we found get our hands on. An eye for an eye, but still that could not take the place of loosing my brother, my family. That is why we are here now, too let you know what you are in for, what has happened before you were created. So you will know what you are in for…"
Kendall stood up, turning to face him, the evil overcoming her. "I know what I’m in for Raven," she growled. "And I welcome it…"
