"There's something wrong…" She looked up at Christian, "Can you feel it too?" He thought, then shook his head.
"I think…" Jeff began, cutting off with a frown before starting again. "I think I can feel something. Like…emptiness." He looked questioningly over at Gabby. "Is that what you feel?" She closed her eyes, nodding. Matt slid out of the booth, standing over them.
"We should search then…for Edge, around the area. He'd gotta be here somewhere." Lily nodded slowly, climbing out of the booth after Jeff, wishing she knew what they were feeling, wishing her own psychic abilities were as developed as theirs.
They went out the side door, leading them to an alley. All the while, Gabrielle clung to Christian for sanity's sake, feeling worse about the situation the closer they got to the back of the alley. A garbage can flipped over on its side, rolling in front of them noisily and the very air seemed thick with something unrecognisable. Edge's presence was growing closer at least, even if it was no more than an occasional flicker of being. Lily caught a glimpse a black trench-coated man fleeing up and over a chain-link fence swiftly. He looked back for a second, and she followed his gaze which revealed Edge in his last seconds, crumbling to dust. The soft noise of the wooden stake falling into the pile of ashes seemed much louder to her, and she struggled to tell someone, anyone, what she had seen, but it wasn't needed. Gabby stood shaking beside Christian, having broken his attempts at a comforting embrace. Jeff and Matt stared in shocked disbelief. Maybe everyone had seen it happen, and Lily wasn't the only one. They all stood for countless seconds, not knowing what to do until Gabby turned her back to the pile of dust, looking right at Lily.
"Did you see him? The man who left?" She questioned desperately, almost wailing. Lily nodded. "Which way did he go? We have to get to him…pay him back…" She trailed off in a haze of emotion and tears, finally retreating to Christian, willing herself silent for the rest of the night.
