Gabrielle sat in silence, refusing to speak to Jeff who sat beside her on the bed. He had also remained silence, but she knew he would say something any minute, and he did.

"Why don't you think its me?" Jeff asked in his always-quiet voice. Gabrielle rose and stood, looking out the window at the black city. She traced her fading reflection in the glass with her index finger. As she gained years, the reflection dimmed. Soon it would be how she remembered Kael's, a faint yellow aura with a shape, but no features. Kael…what had made her think of him, for the first time in many, many years? "Do you miss him Gabrielle? Do you miss Kael?" She could see Jeff's face growing closer in the mirror as he moved beside her. Gabrielle shook her head before a thought blossomed in her mind.

"How do you know Kael?" She asked him absently, resting her forehead against the smooth, cool glass.

"I don't know him. I know of him." Jeff spoke slowly and carefully. It seemed to her that the answer was almost well prepared.

"How do you know I was with him?"

"I don't…but I can tell by the way you're thinking about him." Gabrielle sighed almost deeply in annoyance.

"I don't know who you are, but its not Jeff. Stop lying." She turned her head slightly to catch the look of determination on his face.

"What do I have to do to convince you?" Jeff asked almost desperately, gripping her shoulder. When she tried to shrug his hand off, his grip grew tighter. "You have to believe me." His greenish eyes grew dark with intensity. "Remember when we were friends, Gabrielle? You used to tell me everything. We were closer than bother and sister. Don't you want that back?"

"Let go of me." Gabrielle said evenly, giving up her struggle. He loosened his grip, but didn't relinquish it.

"We were closer than you and Christian…than you and Edge…" He paused, titling his head to the side. "Don't you wish we'd made something more of it?" Narrowing her eyes in astonished disbelief, Gabrielle violently shook her head.

"Never! You - you were my best friend and - " She backed away and he finally released his hold. "And you're not Jeff. He'd never say anything like that." She angrily pushed past him to leave, but stopped when he began to speak again.

"Why? Because I was too nice, because I just wasn't like that? Maybe that’s why I'm here now, ever think of that? Because I've changed. That’s why I was brought back by - " Jeff snapped his mouth shut, and turned around.

"Brought back? What do you mean brought back? By who?" Gabrielle questioned, turning around.

"I - I don't know, I didn't mean - " He stammered as she turned back around.

"Didn't think you'd say anything. Until you're gonna tell the truth, get the fuck out of my face." She spoke quietly, but her resentment was evident. He watched her walk out of the room and down the hall, knowing he'd have to find another way to get through to her.
