"I've not seen you around here." Kael told the girl and she shrugged. "So…what do people call you?" She nervously looked away, seeming to avoid the question, causing Kael to take more of a direct approach, straight into her mind. He found it blank. She couldn't remember. She looked back at him as if maybe he knew something she didn't, pleading for his knowledge.
"I can't remember anything that happened before his morning. I woke up and - " She stopped suddenly, exerting a sigh. "I went to leave the apartment I was in and the sun…It burned my back." She moved her hair aside to show the marks he'd already noticed burning bright red. Kael swore under his breath at the conclusion he knew in his head, realising he had to tell her.
"Whoever you are, you're a vampire."
Passion. It consumes all of them. It’s the reason behind every choice they make. Whether its Christian laying in bed with Jeff, amazed at the happiness he'd been missing out on, or Gabrielle siting with Edge on the couch silently, one of their increasingly familiar habits, its all passion. Even if the mental ties are fading, there's always the physical passion, and sometimes it never leaves. As old ties back down, turn to hate or even nothing, new ties are forged for whatever underlying purpose: revenge, boredom, unhappiness. But there is passion in every relationship, even knew ones, like Kael and his lost little vampire girl. Whatever motives he had, there was an untold attachment in his brain upon the first look they cast at each other. That kind of passion, new as it may be, will never go and can only grow stronger.
"You can sleep here for the day, if you want." Kael gestured to the bed in the corner of the single room he occupied. "I'm thinking of moving into a bigger place, really. That is, if you're staying…" The girl shrugged, looking around nervously then settling her eyes back on him. "Want anything to drink? There's some spare limbs in the fridge in case you're hungry." She squirmed, shaking her head.
"Do we really - you know - do that kind of thing?" Kael looked up at her with an amused expression.
"Of course we do. We are vampires." She sighed, sitting down on the couch beside him. "By the way, how's that sunburn?" He leaned back, brushing her hair off of her shoulders and neck.
"It doesn't hurt anymore." Kael nodded, tracing a finger along the skin that was perfect white, containing none of the red welts it had hours ago. Her breath caught in her throat as his hand rubbed gently at her neck, noticing the beautifully designed spider inked there.
"Some piece of art you've got there." He commented in a low voice, trailing his long thin fingers over the spider's legs.
"I don't remember it…" She choked out slowly, barely above a whisper.
"It's a spider…big, dangerous. Its fangs look like they're piercing your neck." He leaned his head down, lips poised just over the tattoo's centre, the sharp fangs. "It's beautiful." Shivers tingled up her spine at the closeness of his breath against her skin. "I'll call you Spider…"
A smile crept over her face and she closed her eyes. The name was perfect.
