I grew up in Shamokin Pennsylvania, where as a kid I was always into comic books, monster movies, and the cartoons of the day like He-man and Transformers. As a kid I was really into science, but when I got older I started liking history more. I decided to go to Bloomsburg University to be a Social Studies teacher. Writing was also a hobby of mine, I doodled with some short stories. I wasn't really into poetry until I took some writing classes in high school and also got more into music, mainly Guns and Roses and Ozzy Osbourne.
Before starting college a friend told me about this coffee shop where they had monthly poetry readings, at which you could get on stage and read your stuff. I gave it a try, and thanks to the River Poets at the Phillips Emporium, I got more into poetry than i otherwise would have.
After college I taught for a few years on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. In Rapid City SD I met a great group of artists and writers, and we had our own readings and open mics, etc. One time I took 3rd place in the first South Dakota poetry slam.
When I left SD I went back to PA for a bit and also then moved to North Carolina. I always did the poetry stuff wherever I went. In PA I read poems on the radio and self published a collection of poetry from myself and my friends, called A Nest of Dreams. In North Carolina I started my own poetry reading and self published a poetry comic book, Yarrum Samej #1, with local artist John Spillman. We sold it at Heroes World, our first comic convention.
A few years ago I moved to South Korea where I teach English. I've read at open mics here and am in the Drunken Writers Guild, which published a poetry collection called Soju Tense. I just started doing stuff with film, and amd working on other projects on he side.
Right now I see a lot of opportunities that I either didn't know about or just didn't exist before. I've given a lot of thought to starting my own business whenever I come back to America, which will partly include pursuing creative projects. This website being a hub for all my activity.
God bless, and happy creating.
