Automobile Engineering

We are proud that this is the only institute in the state offering a four year B.E degree course in Automobile Engineering with eminent faculties to guide the students. Our graduates are well trained in the areas of production, design, service and maintenance of automobiles. Our curriculum is designed in such a way that we specialize in Automobile Engineering besides learning the major areas of Mechanical Engineering.

Curriculum Overview

During the course work, our students acquire knowledge in the following subjects.

Besides this, the students also study about Software Programming, Electrical and Electronic subjects.

Lab Facilities

We have well equipped, modern laboratories that are updated with the latest technology. To name a few, we have the following equipments.

Engine Testing Lab

• Ashok Leyland Engine with Hydraulic dynamometer
• Ambassador Engine with Hydraulic dynamometer
• Kirloskar Engine with Electrical dynamometer
• Fiat engine with eddy current dynamometer
• Bajaj engine with eddy current dynamometer
• Pressure pickups for combustion studies

Automobile Lab

We have the following imported educational aids for training our students.

• Automobile electrical equipment test stand
• Universal test stand for breaks and clutches
• Working model of air brakes and clutches
• Shock absorber test rig
• Magnetic crack detector

Academic Performance

In every batch, we produced atleast 90% first class with 20% of them securing distinction. In the previous year, our students have secured many university ranks.

The project "Development of Horizontally opposed piston two stroke stratified charge engine" was awarded a prize by the Government of Tamilnadu.

Training

Besides our academic programmes, our students are also taking training for one year in the reconditioning unit of Jeeva Transport Corporation (Govt. of Tamilnadu) Central Workshop, which is located inside our campus. Our students are well trained at this workshop in the following areas.

Association Activities

Our students have become members in professional bodies such as

• Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE (U.S.A)
• Institute of Automotive Engineers, IAE (India)
• India Society for Technical Education, ISTE

Our association organizes seminars bringing experts from various industries. Our students obtain a thorough knowledge by visiting various leading industries and we update ourselves with advanced technologies. We visit atleast five industries per semester.
