Play UK: Welcome back to TOTP

James: Howdy

Play UK: Glad to be back?

Nicky: Yeah, it's been quite a long time now, actually.

Play UK: Fantastic. You're about to release 2 singles this is, we believe, unprecedented. Why are you releasing 2 singles on the same day?

Nicky: Just to be awkward!

Play UK: It'll be interesting to see how the 2 songs chart. Do you think it will give a good indication as to which genre of music the fans prefer?

James: I think we've got a sneaking suspicion that So Why So Sad might do better than Found That Soul. It's got bit more of a tune to it!

Play UK: Some of the things we've heard about the album, which is called Know Your Enemy - it's out in March by the way, you've said it's the most eclectic you've done and the best one you've done to date. In fact, Nicky, you've said in a magazine recently that it's the best album in the world ever, not just of your stuff. Is that something you stand by?

Nicky: Yeah, I think it's...You know... I think, obviously all bands say that the newest album is the best one you've done. I just think there's something about it, the way we did it, the way we felt, completely relaxed and completely in control of everything. It's not very often people associate us with smiling and having fun. We did a bit with this record (smiles!)

Play UK: I guess you'll be smiling and having fun in Cuba (does she think they're going on holiday??) Why Cuba?

Nicky: I think it's just the way it stands up against the Americanisation of the world. It's something we admire really. Britain caves in very easily so I think that a little island in the Caribbean you know... it's a gesture from us that we kind of appreciate what they're doing.

Play UK: Now, the tickets are 25¢ aren't they? Or the equivalent to 17p. Will we get you playing in the UK for that? Because I need to get tickets for me and my mates!

James: We might have to! Sooner or later. But not anymore, no (what is he talking about...?)

Nicky: It'll be sooner than you think!

Play UK: Now, when you look back at the singles you've released, your chart positions go from not charted to Number One. Do you judge yourself by chart positions?

James: We've always been competitive people, yeah. Right from the word go, when we were 16, we all wanted a Number One single and Number One album. And when it actually happened, it meant as much to us as if it were to happen when we were 16.

Play UK: When it comes to Manic lyrics, I think everybody likes to read into them and they're probably supposed to find their own truth behind them. Someone like Eminem, do you agree with his freedom to voice exactly his life experiences?

Nicky: I struggle with it because a lot of what he says I really don't agree with it but he's actually trying to articulate something. I think that's very important. What's more dangerous sometimes is the faceless majority who say absolutely nothing.

Play UK: Well, thank you so much, it's been a pleasure and good luck with the 2 singles and album and the concert at the Karl Marx theatre in Cuba. I may well see you there!

Flicker: Josie D'Arby was interviewing. Was she FLIRTING with Nicky...? she seemed to be.
