It's been a turbulent year to say the least. With the appalling GCSE results, 80% of those who did AS-Levels now doing re-takes, the inclusion of some draughted-in ethnic minorities and 10 boys from the Shell year having been suspended, anyone would've thought UCS to be Hampstead Comprehensive.

Well I can assure you this will all soon change. With our excellent drugs workshop (entitled "Don't do drugs because I say so") we hope to wipe drugs out of the school entirely in just 5 years time. What must be remembered is that those boys were ignorant, stupid, thick, dim-witted, disturbed, addicted, young, naive, foolish etc etc and have promised me not to do drugs ever again in their lifetimes. It's not what they did that upset me, it's how it effected the school. I had boys running up me visually disturbed by the recent events, clinging to my authorative gown pleading, "father Durham, father Durham! What will become of this wonderful institution you have built up on lies and deceit?" Do you know how I answered? The truth is I couldn't. I let them dangle to my robe as I stared into the light, allowing the tears to well up in my eyes. Then the press rang. By the weekend what had started off as a local story emerged in the national press and do you know what the hardest part of that was? Seeing the worst picture ever taken of myself in the Daily Mail and having to tell the parents. And after all that's what this is all about; the parents. The kids might be on drugs but it's the parents who look up to me and expect me to nurture their children to stay away from substances no more harmful than alcohol. It's left up to me, nobody else. So think about it.

Well enjoy the site and I hope you learn something from it.
