Submission Guidelines

The editor normally welcomes unsolicited submissions of poetry, but does not consider previously published poetry. Please send no work that has appeared previously in print or online. The editor will consider work that has been posted on a personal blog, myspace or an online workshop with the following stipulation: Should the submission be accepted at Blue Fifth Review, the work should be removed from all posts and archives of the blog, myspace, or workshop.

Simultaneous submissions are discouraged.

Each issue of Blue Fifth Review will include artwork, solicited from photographers and artists. Query first if interested in submitting. Occasional essays and book reviews will appear, but most are solicited. No fiction will be considered.

The reading periods, unless work is solicited, will be during the months of November and December for the Winter Issue and during April and May for the Summer Issue. Theme issues will be announced.

Competition will be keen. No backlog. The response time should be within two to four weeks unless the level of competition or the specific needs of the journal merit more consideration. No payment other than publication. Rights revert to author upon publication, although Blue Fifth Review does reserve the right to anthologize, in printed or electronic format, material originally published here. If work appearing in this journal subsequently appears elsewhere, the editor does request acknowledgement of Blue Fifth Review as the place of first publication.

The editor accepts e-mail submissions during reading periods only. Submit 3 poems in text format in the body of the e-mail to Sam Rasnake, editor, at bluefifth@lycos.com. No attachments. If work is accepted, the editor may request an attachment for formatting purposes. Please include a brief bio.
