Chapter 2

Nearly having visited every child in the terminal care unit of the hospital, Lance met up with JC. Sighing loudly, Lance muttered, “This is so depressing, JC. I feel so bad for them. Not all the money or love in the world can save them...”

A glazed look in his eyes, the normally attentive young man hadn’t heard a word that his bandmate said to him. Lance snapped angrily, “JC! Aren’t you paying any attention?”

JC, naturally, was not paying attention. He was thinking of the last time that he had seen Macy.

A tiny hand waved to JC. A sad look on his face, he looked at the girl that stood in front of him. Hair in pigtails and donning a pink shirt and overalls, the girl hugged him. “I gotta go Joshy. Mommy said that I have to come here and right back home. The moving truck is leaving and we gotta follow.”

Pouting, JC announced, “I don’t want you to go Mayceeeee!”

Nodding, she said maturely, “My teddy bear’s on the truck. I need Snuggles. So.. I better go. Won’t have anyone to cuddle..”

Hugging her tightly, the 6 year old JC ordered, “Don’t make a new best friend Mayce.”

“I won’t Josh. Gotta go now. Bye Bye.”

Standing in the front yard of his home in Bowie, Maryland, JC waved until Macy was out of sight, and what he thought as being out of his life for good. Trying to overcome his sadness, JC returned inside for a piece of his mom’s chocolate cake. It always did make him feel better.

A grin spread on his face as he thought of Macy, and then he patted Lance on the back. “Lance. I’m going to visit an old friend. She’s right upstairs.”

“Who?” he asked, a bewildered expression on his face. Smiling, JC answered cheerfully, “Macy.. Macy Walker.” However much Lance thought that he knew JC, he never knew about his friendship with Macy. He shook his head, completely confused as JC walked away trailed by a large bodyguard.

Sifting through the rubble, an EMS (Emergency Medical Staff) member groaned, a grim expression on his face. Waving a bright orange flag, he caught the attention of a fellow staff member. Two more people were dead. The crews had been forewarned that there was only a small chance that anyone has survived. However, the results weren’t completely accurate. Already they had found 4 survivors. The man closed the eyes of the victim, and looked away in respect for the deceased child as he waited for his colleague to come remove the body from the crash site.

As he stumbled along, brushing aside the residue from the plane, he heard someone faintly murmuring.

His eyes searching every direction, the man saw someone move. Rushing over, he looked next to a man, and saw someone that he knew. Someone that the press knew. Someone that every teenager in America knew. Shocked, he exclaimed, “Oh my God! Gabby Reynolds!”

Gabby did not reply. At the moment, her world was black. Taking in the scene, the rescue worker untwined Gabby’s finger’s from Aaron’s limp hand, and picked her up. Aaron was gone, and it didn’t look promising for Gabrielle. With one last glance at her traveling companion, the man ran for the medical tent in hopes of saving the young girl. After all.. she had so much to live for.

Knocking lightly, JC entered the room. The large curtain was pulled across, shielding the patient’s identity. Clearing his throat JC disguised his own voice, “Miss. Walker? Miss. Walker? I’m here on behalf of your publishing house.”

Angered, Macy barked, “Don’t you come in here. I don’t want to talk about anything. I’m sick of talking.”

Anxious to see her face, JC swept aside the curtain, and grinned foolishly when he saw her, “Okay.. so I’m not from your publishing company.”

“Who may you be, then?” Macy asked aggressively. A grin on his face, he questioned, “Why Macy Walker.. you don’t remember me?”

Macy stared at him thoughtfully, then brushed him off, “No. I have no idea who you are.”

“Want a hint?” JC asked, hopefully.

Rolling her eyes, she answered, “If you must.”

A sparkle in his eyes, he yelled, “Mayyyyyycccceeeee!”

Wrinkling her nose, she shrugged, “You just made me want to call security, because I really have no clue who you are.” After answering, she batted her hair off of her shoulder in frustration.

JC pouted, “You don’t remember me? How bout this?” He made a puppy dog face and said, “How bout now? Huh?”

Rolling her eyes, she asked, “Are you some kind of a stalker? Cause if so, get out of here!”

“Joshy? Joshy Chasez?” JC blurted out before she could take action.

Before she could reply, MTV News 1515 broke through Daria. JC’s attention turned to the television bolted to the wall in the corner of the room. A somber look on his face, John Norris spoke placidly. “This is John Norris with breaking news on MTV. Reports have gotten out that an American Airlines flight to Orlando, Florida from Los Angeles has crashed in a farming area in Texas. We have also learned that pop singing superstar, the very lovely, very talented Gabrielle Reynolds, was aboard. There is no word as of yet if.. “ he stumbled on his words, “No word yet if.. if Gabrielle and her traveling companions survived. Our thoughts and prayers of course are with her and her family and loved ones. Of course, we will keep you updated on this.. this impending tragedy.”

Then Daria’s face filled the screen, and in a depressed voice, she announced, “Life sucks Jane. And there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Immediately JC froze and let out a low moan, “Ohmigod. Ohmigod. No! No.. Not Gabby...”

Macy’s eyes lit up, and a frown crossed her features, “Josh? Josh? What’s wrong? You know her?”

Before JC could answer, he ran out of the room to try and find Justin to break the news to him.
