A frown on his face, Eminem shouted, “You got that dayyyyum straight!
Detroit what!” then he looked out at the audience and continued, “But no y’all.
We’re here tonight for a reason. We’re here to give that award for best new
artist.”
Nodding, Christina said, “I won last year, now it’s time to hand over the
honors. Here are the nominees!”
Eminem leaned into the mic and began, “P!NK...” he paused, “Leroy
Jeffers,” who was a country singer, “Raz”, a rapper, “Jessica Simpson, “ and
then there seemed to be an eternal pause. Gabby couldn’t tell if she was
breathing or not.
Leaning over, Justin whispered softly in her ear, “The whole world just
fades away the only thing I hear is the beating of your heart.” She grinned at his
comment, trying to calm down.
Finally, Eminem ushered the name that everyone had been waiting for,
“And last but certainly not least, Gabrielle Reynolds!”
Christina grinned catily, and said, “Now.. the moment that i know all these
people have been waiting for, it’s time to open the envelope.”
This, of course,
resulted in a fighting match between she and Eminem over who was going to get
to announce the winner.
Defeated, Christina stepped back as Eminem spoke. “Yo. Now it’s time
for the winner. And the winner is, “ a drumroll sounded in the background,
“Yeah! Believe it or not, I like what it says in dis envelope! Gabrielle Reynolds!! WHAT WHAT?”
Gabby’s hands smacked to her face as Justin lavished her with kisses.
Slowly taking them down, she looked at the crowd around her. She had to get
up. She had to walk in front of thousands of people, who were all cheering her
on. Every eye in the venue was on her.
Justin stood up, and did the other four
and Dani, and they all hugged her. Dani crying due to the fact she was so overjoyed.
Slowly, Gabby made her way down the red carpet, stopped for a hug by
Carson Daly, and when she got to the front row, Faith steped out. She
squealed, “Gab! You did it! Go get it! Congrats.”
A handsome man stepped out and took her hand, gliding her up the
stage. As soon as she reached the podium, Christina grudgingly handed her the
Grammy, and Eminem pulled her into a tight hug. Gabby never was quite sure
why he liked her and despised every other pop artist in the universe, but she wasn’t
about to question anything.
“Whew! Wow!!!” She shouted into the microphone, “Thank you so
much!” By then, the entire crowd was on their feet, cheering her on. However
many people were there, she only focused on one, Justin. “First of all, I’d like to
thank God. Johnny Wright. Joey, Lance, JC, Chris, Dani, Aaron, Jean Claude,
I’d like to thank you all for being there. To Faith, thanks for being such a
good friend! To my dad, thank you for believing in me. Mom, hope you’re
watching from above. And to the love of my life. Thank you for believing in me
even when I didn’t really believe in myself. Lastly, thank you to my fans, and to
those of you that put me here tonight! I love you all!”
Eminem stepped next to her as she walked backtage, Christina on the
other side. She could feel them scowling at each other. With no intention of
talking together, as soon as they were offstage, Christina rushed away, to get back
to her seat.
Eminem, however, hugged her and said, “You girl. Congrats. You
actually earned it. Glad it wasn’t no boy group.”
Smiling, Gabby answered, “Thanks...uh...Slim.”
He smiled as he walked away, and began rapping “Yes I’m Slim Shady,
I’m the real Slim Shady.”

Looking down at her hands, Gabby thought that maybe an Earthquake had been
going on. Justin squeezed her hand reassuringly as Christina Aguilera and
Eminem (of all people!) stood onstage.
Christina leaned into the mic and said, “Betcha this is something that
you’d thought you’d never see!”
After greeting the press, Gabby was escorted by Brick and another
security guard to her backstage dressing room, where Justin sat in a chair,
waiting for her. As soon as she opened the door, he jumped up and hugged her
tightly, “I KNEW it! I just KNEW it!”
She grinned, and then Justin’s face became serious. “I.. I saw you
onstage there tonight, and heard all the fans screaming your name.. and I woke
up Gabby. To tell you the complete truth, I’ve been carrying this in my pocket for
weeks, waiting for the right time. I think it’s the right
time now."
He pulled out a small navy velvet box, and opened the lid. There
was a star-shaped ring inside, encrusted with garnet stones, and opals (Justin
and Gabby’s birth stones). “A promise ring. I can’t pluck the stars out of the sky
for you, but if I could, you know you’d have one already. This is as close as it
gets. I love you Gabby. I want to stay with you. I want us to be real.”
A smile on her face, Gabby answered, “I love you too, Justin. I can’t
imagine being without you. I’d be so alone.. or pretending to love someone I
didn’t really care about... You changed my world.”
“Sixty seconds until we go on. How you holding up, Gab?” Faith asked,
standing in front of Gabby. The two had grown extremely close over the past
few months. Faith never regretted the decision she made when she first met
Gabby. The two were set that night to perform two songs, “Breathe,” which of
course, was Faith’s, and “(You Make It) So Hard To Walk Away” which Gabby
wrote.
It seemed as though Gabby’s teeth were still chattering from the shock of
her win. “Faithie.. I’m sooo sooo nervous!”
Faith shook her head and responded, "Try to look at Justin the entire time
that you’re up there, and I guarantee you, there won’t be a problem.”
Fussing with her hair one last time, Aaron stepped back and checked out
her outfit. Gabby now wore a pair of black “pleather” pants, a tight black tank
top that was dazzled in rows and rows of crystals in the shape of a triangle, and
black and silver sneakers. Her amaizing outfit was complemented by her
sparkling smile and made her truly look like a star.
It was then that Aaron spotted the ring on her right hand’s ring finger.
Justin had put it on that hand to avoid the rumors that would have inevitably
surfaced reguarding it. “Ring?”
Smiling, she answered, “It’s from Justin.. Let’s just say that it’s between
him, and I.”
She then turned her attention back to Faith, “Well, it’s time Faithie.
Almost time. I’m gonna do this one for Justin.”
Nodding, Faith said, “Amen to true love. Now come on girl. Let’s show
this crowd how we do music.”
