Calling all Zemmer West Girls who want to be Cheerleaders

First day practice notice will be posted on ZEMMER'S school doors.

Zemmer West Cheerleading Tryouts for the 2001 Football Season 7th and 8th grades.

  • Weds. Aug. 22, 2001
  • Thurs Aug. 23,2001
  • Mon. Aug 24
  • Tues Aug 25 and
  • Weds. Aug 26. (FINAL SELECTIONS)

TIME: 3:00 to 5:00
PLACE: in the Zemmer cafeteria.

HINT: It is VERY IMPORTANT students are picked up from tryouts on time. A student can be excluded it they are late being picked up!

Please come prepared with:
gym shoes and socks, shorts, t shirts.

PICKUP BY PARENTS MUST BE PROMPT.

PHYSICAL FORMS MUST BE IN THE OFFICE BEFORE FIRST PRACTICE.

No one will be allowed to practice or try out for cheerleading or any sport without this form being turned in. 7th Graders must turn in the physical to Zemmer school office. 8th Graders must turn theirs in at the West 8th grade office.

NO EXCEPTIONS!! (THIS IS A DISTRICT POLICY !)

Paperwork for physical can be obtained from the school office the week before school starts or at the Admisistration building during the summer. (Knollwood clinic has physicals for a reasonable fee (approximately $15) Walk-In appointments are available.)

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE CAFETERIA ALL YOUR BELONGINGS.

No one is to go to their locker after practice.
You may change in the locker room, but be in the cafeteria by 3:00pm.(Zemmer Policy)

PARENTS MUST PICK UP THE STUDENTS AT 5 PM.
BE EARLY BUT DO NOT BE LATE.
MORE THAN THREE LATE PICKUPS CAN BE CAUSE FOR EXPULSION FROM THE TEAM.

Bring to wear:

SHORTS …..no zippers, snaps, buttons
(We do not want anything that can get caught and cause a safety hazard. Boxers shorts are best)

SOCKS

TENNIS SHOES (standard style) NO!!! platform tennis shoes !!!
Remember safety is the issue!!!

HAIR MUST BE KEPT UP OUT OF YOUR EYES AND FACE.

No Jewelry ( no bracelets, earrings, necklaces, etc.)

No Nail polish……

nails must be kept short to prevent stabbing and injuries during partner stunts.

NO gum chewing, candy or food in your mouth at any time during practice, games, or cheering.
(choking hazard )

ANTICIPATED COSTS IF A STUDENT MAKES THE TEAM:

BODY SUITE $20-$25
BRIEFS……………………….. $8.00
Shoes …………(a style has been selected) $45 to $50
Socks………………………………$5.00 per pair
Ribbons……………………….To be determined, will be supplied by the coaches.

All cost are approximate. Most cheerleading supplies can be purchased at COACHES CORNER in Lapeer. Wait untill after you make the team to buy anything new. Your coaches will inform you what style and colors are to be purchased by each grade level.

PAY FOR PLAY FEE IS $95.00 FOR THIS YEAR.

PAY FOR PLAY, is a one time fee that covers all sports your child may be involved in the school year. The student can play in a number of sport activities, beside cheerleading.

UNIFORMS are property of the school.

Any damaged or lost pieces must be replaced by the student. Students are responsible for the uniform until they are turned in.
(Each piece is approximately $50.00)
Upon making the team each cheerleader will get:
a skirt, vest, pants and jacket.

Uniforms are to be returned, in good shape, at the end of the year after being dry cleaned.
( Uniforms returns are expected two weeks after the last game or when told by the coaches.)

Try out information:

Motion Drills

7th graders are to make an original chant for the team.
(Zemmer West, West Panthers etc.)

8th Graders will make up a cheer.
Cheers and chants can be preformed in groups.

THERE WILL BE 4 JUDGES.
The 7TH AND 8TH GRADE COACHES AND TWO GUEST JUDGES.

You should be able to show the judges two of the following

(your best) stunts or movements:

TOE TOUCH

HEEL STRECH

TUCK JUMP

RIGHT OR LEFT HERKE JUMP

SPLITS

Cartwheel

Round Off

Each cheerleader will need to make a poster for display.

Posters are to be used during football ( glitter can be used because it is outdoors)
and basket ball ( no glitter because the court is indoors.)
For try outs bring:

Your poster

Your “Why I want to be a cheerleader paper.”

Pledge of Integrity, signed by the student and their parents.

The cheerleaders constitution.

Written out words to your chant or cheer

TRY OUT FOR 2000 CHEER SQUAD WILL BE: posted at a later date. GAMES WILL PROBABLY BE ON WEDNESDAYs. (Schedules will be passed out at a later time.)

Practices will be on every MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND THURSDAY til end of season.

* ROUTINES FOR STRECHING: You will be taught how to do correctly the following excercises.

Straddle right leg, left leg, and center

Runners Lunge: right and left

Crunches

Split Stretch right and left

Push ups

Kicks

Arms

Wall jumps

Swinging strech

Starbursts

Splits: right, left, center, and switch

Jumps: Right Herke, Left Herke, Pike, Tuck, Toe-touch, Heel stretch
