2008 Trans Am Mini Nationals

The Trans Am Mini Nats came about as an idea that I had in 2000 with a friend of mine, (Ed Weber),  to show off our "little 'birds." Over the years we have amassed  a pretty decent collection. (Thanks to all my friends and especially my wife for helping it grow!!) I said to myself, "HEY you have all of these cars and no one else gets to enjoy them !! You've got to do something about that."  ( I'm prone to have these discussions with myself from time to time) I talked to Sue from the T/A committee about setting up a room for our display and we were on our way ! I try to think of it as a place for all of us collectors to get together and talk about our little cars.

That first year, the display featured cars from Ed, myself and T/A club member Becky Bayes, who has quite a collection herself. I personally didn't think it would be too much of a big deal but a LOT of people enjoyed it. Each year we have gotten more people to bring stuff in to display.  We have now grown into our own separate show that is open to anyone who has a "little bird", (any scale plastic, diecast, wood or whatever) to share with the crowd. Bring one or bring a few, we're happy to have them there. If you would like to bring something, you can just bring it up around noon on Friday or after 11:00 a.m. Saturday. The room where we do display is locked when no one is in there so your cars should be safe. The Mini Nats runs on Saturday and Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

For 2008, we  had the usual display of all the various diecast cars. There was the usual stock cars, custom cars, old ones, new ones, and rare and limited models too. Just like the big show outside! David Harris also brought some of his plastic models he has built over the years. (including a copy of the Trans Am concept design) It seems to me that the interest in model building has faded over the years, but hopefully it will make a comeback soon. David should have some more built for next years show. Can't wait to see them.

I had someone contact me earlier in the year who wanted to donate a "junkyard jewel" diecast that he creates. The car was displayed at the mini nats for the weekend, and then auctioned for Special wish Foundation. Brad donated both the car and his time in making it, and the cost to ship it to us and has never even been to the show.  A big THANKS goes out to him. If you are interested in getting something done, contact him at

If you would like to participate next year, just bring your stuff to the show or contact Everett at   tacadayton@yahoo.com   Please use "Mini Nationals" as the subject.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us keep an eye on things in the display room so that we can see some of the show and get our cars cleaned also. It's a great way to take a breather from the show and relax a little!
