Labour Day
Topic: Balance
There's something about Fall's arrival, that triggers deep-rooted instincts in me.

I can't really explain it, but perhaps it has to do with being raised in a big family (7 kids), and having to stock up the stores for winter with canning, pickling, filling the cold-storage with the tons of potatoes that we all helped harvest from my uncle's farm. I remember that so vividly, and I was just weeeeeeeee!

My parents were, and still are to this day; gardeners. I think part of it is just the love of growing and nurturing that has always been/is a part of their lives. There's nothing more rewarding than feeding from the fruit of your labour<--spelled with a u as you can see.

My good friend Ben informed me that the whole omission of the u thing, was because Theodore Roosevelt couldn't spell and ordered Congress to make it simpler...but then our conversation took a turn, and before we knew it, there was a mention of the word ass, and then the brian took a direct hit! hehe gotta love him, and typos ;)

*ahem*

Ok, back to my observation...I do believe that was my purpose here.

I did garden for a while myself, but had to let it go when health problems made a stand. I miss it, terribly, especially now. Though I'm entertaining this bright idea of buying a few bushels of tomatoes to can and juice, as well as cucumbers to pickle, though I seriously doubt my hand/arm would get me through the entire process.

Oh yeah, there is that...long and labourious hours of work are involved, but I've never found any other to substitute the feeling of accomplishment that comes upon its completion, quite like the aforementioned.

And so Fall is a transitional phase for me in a deeper sense as well.

I'm toying with the idea of taking some correspondence courses, and I hear they're going to make high speed internet available to us soon, so that opens up a few more virtual options.

I was checking out some things at both Ottawa, and Carleton U, and I'd love to get my Bach. in Literature or Humanities, but I’m still not sure what’s available in the distance learning, or online studies department, so a little more research is in order.

Right.

So the original title for this entry was ‘Transitions’ and as I was saying, I’m at another transitional phase in my life; one where I need to refresh, recycle, and re-align myself. I need mind stimulation to quell this underlying restlessness that ever simmers beneath the surface, choosing to rear its ugly head from time to time. And now, as I’ve rambled on long enough, I will go bake something. Keeping my hands busy helps calm the beast, at least temporarily.

Ciao
